Background:
The Assistive Technology Clinic (ATC) is an expanded-level AAC Clinic. We operate with unique and highly specialized inter-professional clinical teams, comprised of occupational therapists, speech language pathologist, therapy support staff, biomedical engineers, and computer technologists, who work collaboratively to improve the quality of life for our patients.
The Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Clinic at ATC is an expanded-level clinic designated by the Ministry of Health Assistive Devices Program (ADP) to provide AAC services for individuals who have physical limitations that affect their face-to-face communication, and/or affect their ability to use a regular keyboard and/or mouse. islocated in the Toronto Grace Health Centre, where we see hospital inpatients and outpatients who are referred to our programs from across Ontario from acute care hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and community service providers and or directly from a family physician or home care allied health professional. Our award-winning AAC team will provide assessment, prescription of communication/writing aids, and training and support as appropriate
Job Description:
The ATC is currently looking to hire a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for a part-time position. As an SLP, you will be working in interdisciplinary teams of allied health professionals to assess patients’ communication and provide recommendations to the team. Your input will be used by our team at ATC to provide low-tech and high-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication solutions for our patients. Patients seen at ATC include adults with Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, and ALS.
Clinical Duties: **
The SLP will provide coordinated services based on evidence-based best practices. Clinical responsibilities include:
- Providing assessment of communication concerns, oral motor skills, and cognitive communication functions for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
- Prescribing the most appropriate communication aid to meet patient communication needs
(e.g., communication boards, speech generating devices, etc.) in accordance with policies and procedures of the ADP – Communication Aids category, and the Centralized Equipment Pool (CEP).
- Providing supervision of SLP and Communicative Disorders Assistant students.
- Developing educational and training programmes for communication for patients, families and in/outpatient professional staff.
- Maintain current clinical records in accordance with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (mandatory).
- Experience in dealing with AAC devices (preferred).
- ADP Individual Authorizer Status in AAC (preferred).
- Current knowledge regarding new trends and technologies as they relate to the management of communication disorders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function as part of an interprofessional team.
- Computer competency including experience with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation.

Pay: $39.00-$47.00 per hour
