Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Legal Counsel will provide advice and support to Brandt managers and executives regarding corporate governance, commercial transactions, and acquisitions. Duties will include but are not limited to drafting and reviewing legal and corporate documents, conducting legal research, and providing legal advice and counsel for the various aspects of the organization’s operations.
Develop, manage and implement corporate and commercial legal services for Brandt’s senior management.
Responsible for contract review, development and implementation including negotiation with third parties.
Provide expertise, strategic input, advice and legal education to Brandt across a broad range of legal and operational matters.
Manage costs within the Brandt Legal department and be responsible for identifying cost efficiencies and best practices for efficient provision of commercial legal services, with a focus on innovation and improvement.
Provide general legal advice in various aspects of Brandt’s business, while ensuring legal compliance and alignment with Brandt policies, practices and procedures.
Provide instructions, direction and oversight to external counsel in their performance of Brandt legal work.
Provide expertise and advice on legal trends and best practices in the areas of real estate law, commercial contract law, compliance and regulatory matters, mergers and acquisition activity and other areas as required.
Lead the legal aspect of project work including mergers and acquisition activities working closely with outside service providers, internal support functions and Brandt’s senior management.
Manage, develop and implement diligence procedures and appropriate contracting for project work.
Assist in internal investigations and reporting.
Provide expertise and advice on legal trends and best practices in the corporate/commercial area and other areas as required.
Manage costs within the department to budget and be responsible for identifying cost efficiencies and best practices for efficient provision of litigation legal services, with a focus on innovation and improvement.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum of two (2) years at the bar and corporate and commercial legal experience in-house or in private practice would be an asset.
Post secondary degree in law or juris doctor and a member of the Saskatchewan Law Society.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge skill and competence will be considered.
