ITRES is currently looking to fill an Optical Designer position. Ideally, the candidate will have a background in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline, with experience in optical system design and analysis. The successful candidate will have exposure to imaging systems, optical modeling tools such as Zemax, and electro-optical testing. A strong interest in optics, imaging technologies, and solving complex technical challenges is essential for success in this role. New graduates from related fields may be considered.
What you get to do:
- Design, analyze, and optimize optical systems, including lenses, spectrographs, and imaging assemblies, to meet performance and product requirements.
- Develop and maintain optical models using Zemax or similar optical design software to support system development and performance evaluation.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to integrate optical and opto- mechanical components into complete imaging solutions.
- Help to evaluate and support the selection of image sensor technologies.
- Perform optical performance analysis, studies, and design verification activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Develop and execute test plans to characterize optical and imaging system performance.
- Support laboratory activities including system assembly, optical alignment, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation testing.
- Analyze experimental data and generate technical reports, design documentation, and performance assessments.
- Apply radiometric and imaging principles to improve system performance and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
Desired Skills:
- Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Zemax, MATLAB, IDL, Python, or similar scientific programming and data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and industry standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100 is considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team environment.
- Pass a security Clearance Application
