Providence Healthcare is one of the largest post- acute rehabilitation hospitals in Ontario. We are now part of Unity Health Toronto (a hospital network consisting of St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Providence Healthcare). At Providence, we offer many programs for adults including long-term care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, geriatric care as well as in-patient palliative care. Services on-site include laboratory services, x-ray, ultrasound, and EMG; other services, including consultation services, are quickly and easily obtainable either on-site or through our network partners. Located conveniently across from Warden subway station, Providence is also close to a beautiful greenspace that allows trail access for cyclists.
We are currently seeking a dedicated, highly skilled Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist to cover two inpatient geriatric/complex medical rehab units in an inpatient consultant position. These are each 30 - bed units with hospitalist physicians acting as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP). The units are also serviced by several other interdisciplinary team members including OT, PT, Social Work, SLP and Nursing. All duties are performed in accordance with the Mission and Values of Providence Healthcare.
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
University of Toronto academic appointment or willingness to apply for academic appointment
Experience and/ or interest in medical education, quality improvement and research
Strong communication skills and an interest in practising in close collaboration with other physiatrists and a dynamic interdisciplinary team.
Role description and responsibilities:
Focal physiatry consults for neuro/MSK issues as identified as being appropriate by the hospitalist MRP
Consultation, investigation workup, and any appropriate management including injection treatments
EMG practice/experience not required
Approximately 8 consults per week, plus follow-up of existing patients
Part time position, with a minimum time commitment of being on-site twice per week (full days not required)
No on-call duties
Communication with referring physicians within Unity Health Toronto and GTA as needed
Participation in Providence Healthcare and Unity Health Toronto committees and quality initiatives
Remuneration will be directly through OHIP.
