Teacher - Elementary & Junior High Mental Health Counsellor

Requirements: The Ideal Candidate would possess the following background, philosophy, and experience:
- Bachelor of Education
- Master of Psychology, Social Work or Counselling with advanced practice in the assessment and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders (or a significant completion of this program).
- The successful candidate will have specific knowledge and training in school counselling and be able to support regular classroom teachers with specialized teaching strategies in regards to supporting mental health.
- Experience teaching in an Elementary setting is an asset.
- Providing training and support to teachers for students for student social and emotional development, anxiety and instructional approaches to build student resilience and independence is needed.
- Deliver preventative “best-practice” interventions and related psycho-social development programs as approved by the Division.
- Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to the provision counselling services and learning supports
- Experience with making referrals for therapeutic support and outside agencies who support students and families is an asset.
- Track caseload data and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services, learning supports and student responses to interventions and comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to records management.
