What we need:
The Policy Advisor provides the leadership, facilitation and consultation necessary for the development, integration, review, revision and archiving of policies, procedures, medical directives, delegated acts and supporting documents.
The Advisor is responsible to develop the appropriate channels and processes for policies and procedures and to ensure documents are processed through the appropriate channels for consultation and endorsement for consistent and safe practice, and alignment with legislation, accreditation, professional and hospital standards. The Advisor will provide support for the ongoing maintenance and required evolution of the electronic Policy Library.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Develop and oversee a standardized framework for developing, approving, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing policies, procedures, medical directives and delegated acts
In collaboration with others, identify areas for development of policies and medical directives and delegated acts
Lead and/or participate in development and review of specific policies, procedures, medical directives, and delegations
Consult on the format, language, content and synthesis of policies and medical directives and delegated acts to ensure organizational consistency and inclusion of required details
Serve as a resource for inquiries, both internal and external to MSH regarding policies
Ensure that policies and procedures support the mission, vision and values of MSH and integrate safe practices
Review policies in response to legislative requirements, professional and organizational bylaws, rules and regulations, and accreditation standards and make recommendations/changes as appropriate
Communicate updates to and development of new and revised policies and procedures and medical directives and delegations across the organization
Promote awareness, understanding and acceptance of policies and procedures to stakeholders
Develop, in collaboration with others, innovative methods for policy dissemination, implementation and evaluation
Maintain external linkages within the health care industry and in policy forums to ensure that best practices, continuous quality improvement and risk mitigation processes are applied to the development, review and revision of policies, e.g. Canadian Policy and Procedure Network
Oversee an electronic database, index and central repository of archived and existing policies, medical directives and delegated acts that is consistent with retention and storage requirements
The Risk Specialist provides the leadership, facilitation and consultation necessary to apply risk management principles to clinical and corporate areas, particularly to incident management and hospital liability.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for system administration tasks for the incident reporting system
Assist Risk Manager in developing and administering an integrated risk management program that focuses on enterprise-wide risk reduction, with an emphasis on clinical risk
In collaboration with key internal and external stakeholder coordinate identification, reporting, evaluation, and correction/prevention of risk
Support events aimed at identifying improvements related to risk management
In collaboration with key internal and external stakeholder ensure policies and procedures are in place that relate to key areas of potential risk and liability for the hospital
Assist with claims related to patient/visitor liability to the corporation’s insurance company
Coordinate the corporation’s investigations and defense with HIROC, Insurance Adjusters and Legal Counsel
Help support, information and assistance to staff members involved in claims, potential claims and hospital investigations.
Assist with case developments
Compensation:
$37.48-$45.70 per hour
What you bring to MSH:
A post secondary degree in a health care related field Ie healthcare administration, social work, nursing, risk management etc
Recent and related experience in a hospital and policy development setting
A strong understanding and knowledge of policy development and risk management within a hospital
Knowledge of best practice related to policies and procedures, medical directives and delegated acts; ability to integrate innovative ideas in the development and implementation of the same
Knowledge of key legislation that impacts on practice
Aids in legal claims processes: collecting information from internal stakeholders for litigation discovery processes as required
A background in document research and development with ability to edit and provide critical feedback
Ability to use Microsoft Office and database applications in the course of normal work duties
Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with managers, physicians and staff at all levels in the organization
Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups with competing interests
Demonstrated ability to coordinate diverse stakeholders and to work effectively with interprofessional teams
Self-directed with ability to prioritize workload and attend to details
Ability to maintain flexibility in the face of changing priorities and anticipate the need for action before events force it
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to manage high workload within specified timelines
Demonstrated ability to think analytically and at a systemic level
Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
