Ensures and promotes that the provision of resident centeredness and personal care services are available to meet the needs of residents as follows:
a) Supports and helps provide a Resident Advocacy Program through the promotion and respect of the Resident’s Bill of Rights. b) Promotes the philosophy and practices of resident centeredness and humanizing in all residents’ encounters and decisions. c) Promotes and supports the humanizing elements of the Home including pets, birds, plants, children, décor and programs. d) Ensures that the humanizing elements of the Home (pets, plants, birds, children, décor and programs) are supported and form part of the resident’s daily living. e) Respects and uses sensitivity in spiritual, cultural and ethnic aspects of a resident’s life. f) Maintains a wellness perspective. g) Supports residents in achieving quality experiences, both personal and social. h) Facilitates relationships between and among residents, relatives, staff and community. i) Seeks opportunities for resident participation in decisions that affect the resident’s rights and lifestyle.
Provides input into the need and use of equipment and supplies required for residents with physical and cognitive deficits.
a) Evaluates the need for resident requiring a mechanical lift for transfers along with the physician / (PT) physio-therapist / registered nurse / restorative aide. b) Evaluates the appropriate use of a mechanical lift / transfer sling by the nonregistered staff including evaluating the staff use of the lift Pre-start checklist, monitoring the condition of the sling and safe transfer of the resident. c) Evaluates the resident need for use of a wheelchair, walker, cane or other mobility devices along with the physician / (OT) occupational therapist / registered nurse and restorative aide d) In the event of a resident fall, evaluates the need for alternative mechanical lift / sling to assist the resident from the floor
Promotes interrelationships as follows:
a) Communicates appropriately and uses active listening skills with residents. b) Communicates with and supports families in their involvement and participation. c) Maintains communication between staff and nursing administration and other departments. d) Provides report to other nursing staff at change of shift.
Participates in Quality Improvement in nursing services as follows:
a) Contributes to the strategic planning process by assisting and supporting nursing services and all members of the multidisciplinary team as needed in planning, implementing and ongoing evaluation of our resident centered model. b) Plans assignments for self and non-registered staff. c) Supervises resident care in accordance with current and accepted standards. d) Evaluates the care provided and participates with other nursing personnel in evaluation of resident care. e) Communicates and updates changes in resident’s plan of care to the RN and non-registered staff. f) Teachers other nursing personnel, individual residents, families and groups. g) Promotes an environment in which the health care team works cooperatively and supportively. h) Communicates and documents professional practice. i) Seeks out opportunities to maintain competency and to continuously learn, taking an active role in continuous quality improvement. j) Ensures that the appropriate senior Managers are apprised of any problems in a timely fashion as delegated by the Director of Nursing and Personal Care (DON). k) Conducts audits. l) Renews and improves issues raised in the resident/family satisfaction surveys.
