Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
- Assisting the Veterinarian with patient appointments.
- All VMR/VMA required responsibilities.
- Administering and preparing medications, injectable medications, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Performing diagnostic tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and radiographs.
- Assisting veterinarians during surgeries and dental procedures, keeping accurate records, and performing post-surgical clean-up; including instruments, biological material, and surgical suite.
- Monitoring anesthesia and patient recovery post-surgery.
- Providing wound care and bandaging.
- Perform nail trims and anal gland expressions.
- Basic grooming, therapeutic bathing and shaving of patient.
- Conduct nursing appointments under the direction of a DVM.
- Partake in bi-annual Inventory counts.
- Clean and sanitize the treatment area, surgical suite, instruments, and equipment.
Client Communication:Educating pet owners on preventative care, nutrition, and post-treatment or surgical care. Demonstrating proper techniques for administering medications at home. Answering client questions and addressing concerns about their pets' health. Providing compassionate support to pet owners during difficult times and offering support during Euthanasia procedures. Callbacks after surgeries and critical appointments are completed daily.
Laboratory Work:Collecting and preparing samples for laboratory testing. Performing in-house laboratory tests and recording results. Ensuring proper handling and storage of laboratory specimens.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records.
- Assisting lead technician in ordering and managing inventory of medical supplies and medications.
- Scheduling appointments and managing patient flow.
- Reviewing patient files and ensuring accuracy of S.O.C in EzyVet.
- Assisting with billing and client check-out processes.
- All VMR/VMA required responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 lbs in a safe manner.
- Comfort with handling animals of various sizes and temperaments
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
- Willingness to restrain or assist with patient care under the supervision of a veterinarian
Work Environment:
The RVT will interact with a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, and occasionally exotic pets. The role involves working in a dynamic and sometimes fast-paced environment, requiring flexibility and adaptability. The RVT must be comfortable working with animals and using safe handling techniques to ensure the safety of both the animals and support staff.
