JOB PURPOSE:
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal efficiency and safety of operations.
The Maintenance Technician III is expected to work continental shifts: 6am to 6pm/6pm to 6am, 3 shifts one week 4 shifts the next with every other weekend off and rotate days-to-nights every two weeks.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all preventative maintenance procedures to maintain equipment, facility, heating/cooling systems, pumps compressors, etc.
- Complete and review documentation such as maintenance logs, work orders, manuals and inventory control records
- Provide operational troubleshooting on process equipment, facility systems and R&D equipment
- Promote and monitor safety, the quality of workmanship, efficiency, cleanliness and compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) within the maintenance department
- Install, modify, service, and dismantle mechanical equipment
- Perform verification/calibration on plant instrumentation
- Troubleshoot air handling systems
- Identify, resolve and communicate system/equipment breakdowns
- Perform general maintenance including cleaning, emergency snow removal, painting, lighting, pipe cleaning and housekeeping
- Assist in root cause analysis for accidents, equipment failures, and process investigations
- Actively train on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Technical Manuals and safety procedures as required
- Maintain cleanliness and order of work area to ensure cGMP and safety compliance
- Act as a representative of the Maintenance group in dealing with cross-functional team/task forces on issues such as validation, process optimization and product/process interruptions
- Assist external contractors as required
- Working knowledge of DCS, PLC, and ADT security
- Contributes to process improvements and documentation such as authoring/revising SOP’s
- Chair monthly team meetings and follow up with action items
- Complete documentation such as preventive maintenance forms, manuals and inventory control records as per cGMP guidelines
- Act as a designate for the Supervisor in their absence
- Collaborate with, contribute to and take initiative within the Maintenance group
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent
- Millwright License preferred
- Minimum 6 years progressive experience at Piramal Healthcare (Canada) with all training completed for Maintenance Technician level 3
WORK EXPERIENCE:
6+ years experience in a maintenance role, preferably within pharmaceutical or food manufacturing and/or research facility operating under high quality and safety standards.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Ability to work on a 7/24 schedule under diverse working conditions
- Written communication skills including the ability to write investigation reports, standard operating and maintenance procedures, root cause analysis reports etc.
- Advanced knowledge of condensers, pumps, refrigeration, compressor systems
- Completion of forklift training and confined space
- Strong knowledge in Preventive Maintenance and knowledge of PPE and SCBA
- Spill response training

Physical Demands:
- Must be clean shaven to wear provided respiratory protection
- Must wear provided PPE, for example Tyvek coveralls, safety eyewear, gloves, and safety footwear
