The Coastal GasLink Project involves the construction of approximately 670 km of NPS 48 pipeline and associated facilities. Surerus-Murphy Joint Venture has been awarded Spreads 1 and 2 of the pipeline portions of the Project which are located near Chetwynd, BC.

ROLE:
Working in conjunction with the Engineering Manager, the Assistant Engineering Manager: will provide day to day direction to the Coastal Gas Link Engineering Team including the coordination, interpretation, and implementation of design, and delivery of expertise to the project. We are particularly keen to hear from those with experience in the midstream area of the oil and gas industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set a high personal example of safety and environmental by ensuring compliance with Company manuals and procedures in conjunction with the HSE department.
  • Supervise engineering team and monitor their work.
  • Provide operational, strategic, and contractual advice and service to project management team when associated with design management and engineering.
  • Manage delivery of guidance and service support to project meetings to contribute a clear view for delivering design management and engineering.
  • Undertake a detailed planning process ahead of any works being undertaken.
  • Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficiently accurate information for construction of the works.
  • Liaise with QA/QC department to ensure that inspection and test plans accurately capture the requirements of specifications. Support the QA/QC department to ensure that the construction team understand the requirements of the inspection and test plan.
  • Inform management of engineering team activity and progress achieved.
  • Manage all day to day engineering activities currently being undertaken. Including assessment of permanent and temporary works design requirements and the appointment of suitable resources to satisfactorily complete the work.
  • Confirm verbal instructions received from the client / designer staff and ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
  • Ensure that all changes in client / company standards are captured reviewed and briefed out to all staff critical personnel involved.
  • Effectively allocate project resources to ensure optimum delivery and maximum return while managing risk.
  • Communicate effectively with construction teams to ensure full understanding of information provided.
  • Communicate with commercial staff to ensure all records for measurement and payment purposes are prepared promptly and in the appraise form.
  • Maintain working relations with client, designers, construction teams and supply chain.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Civil preferred).
  • P.Eng registration with APEGA, EGBC
Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in pipeline engineering, design and construction.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry.
  • Understanding of relevant construction codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Thorough working knowledge of health safety, quality and environment procedures within the oil and gas industry
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Knowledge of project and contract management process gained through successful experience.
  • Capable of completing work to deadline.
  • Ability to identify contract and commercial aspects around change and the management of change.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is primarily field based, working around Chetwynd, BC. This is likely to entail prolonged periods in the field, especially during peak construction periods over Summer months. Project Personnel may be required to live in Camp as the project progresses West.

Work rotations will mirror that of Field Operations, this being 6 days on 1 day off shift with 12 hour shifts for the duration of Field Operations.

The Assistant Engineering Manager reports to the Engineering Manager.
