RiverWatch is Hiring: Class 2 Driver to Support our Float Operations This Season

Schedule: 7-8 hours/day, 5 days/week

For 30 years, RiverWatch has delivered award-winning science education programs that connect students to Alberta’s rivers. Each fall, thousands of junior and senior high school students participate in our School Science Float Programto learn about ecology, water quality, and stewardship aboard guided rafts. None of this happens without safe, dependable transportation — that’s where you come in.
Position Overview
We are seeking a safety-oriented, professional Class 2 or Class 4 Driver to join our operations team. You will be responsible for transporting staff (less then 15), and equipment between launch and take-out sites each day. This position is central to the safe and smooth operation of our field programs, and you will work closely with guides and educators to ensure that every trip runs on time and without incident.
This is more than a driving role — it is about safety, responsibility, and being an integral part of a team delivering outdoor education to Alberta youth.
Safety-Focused Responsibilities
Passenger & Student Safety
- Safely operate a equipment bus (under 15 passengers) truck or passenger van, following all traffic laws and school transport regulations.
- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections (tires, brakes, lights, fluids, safety equipment).
- Keep all safety equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers, reflective gear) in place and in working order.
- Maintain calm, professional communication with teachers, students, and staff in all situations.
Equipment & Logistics Safety
- Safely tow and transport raft trailers, gear, and supplies between river sites and the compound.
- Ensure rafts and equipment are securely loaded, tied down, and transported.
- Support daily site setup, ensuring safe staging of rafts and gear at launch points.
- Monitor weather, road, and site conditions with the team to make safety-based decisions.
- Refuel and maintain vehicles to ensure they are road-ready and compliant with RiverWatch’s safety standards.
Team Safety Support
- Act as an extra set of eyes and ears for guides during daily operations.
- Be a key link in emergency response: support communication between launch/take-out sites and assist with any evacuations if required.
- Report all safety concerns, incidents, or near-misses immediately to the Leadership Team.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 2 or Class 4 Alberta Driver’s License (required).
- Minimum 3 years of commercial vehicle driving experience (required for insurance).
- Minimum 3 years of proof of insurance.
- Clean Driver’s Abstract (must be provided at hire).
- Strong attention to detail and proven commitment to passenger and road safety.
- Ability to lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather (rain, cold, heat, wind).
- Reliable, professional, team-oriented, and adaptable.
