McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes is a family-owned funeral services company that has been part of the Calgary community and a leader in the funeral services industry for over 120 years.
We're looking for a professional, approachable and highly organized Human Resources Coordinator to join our HR team and support approximately 140 employees working across our locations in and around Calgary.
This is a hands-on HR role focused on the day-to-day employee experience. One moment you may be interviewing a candidate, the next you're helping a new employee understand their schedule, preparing an employment document, setting up a company phone or tracking down the answer to an employee's question.
We're ideally looking for someone with Human Resources education who enjoys the hands-on, day-to-day side of HR. However, candidates with relevant experience supporting Human Resources, recruitment, onboarding, employee services or similar functions are also encouraged to apply.
Your Role in HR
Working alongside our HR Advisor and Payroll/Benefits Administrator, you'll help support the day-to-day HR needs of our team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Recruitment – Conducting initial screening interviews and assisting throughout the recruitment process to help us find the diamonds who will excel in a specialized, 5-Star Customer Service environment.
- Onboarding – Preparing new-hire documentation, completing required setup and ensuring new employees have the information, access and tools they need to be successful. Thankfully, there are checklists.
- New-Hire Orientation – Helping welcome new employees to McInnis & Holloway and introducing them to our culture, policies, schedules, systems and the practical details they need to get started.
- Day-to-Day HR – Responding to employee questions such as: How much vacation do I have? What are my benefits? Where can I find...? Could I get a letter of employment?
- Uniform Program – Managing our uniform inventory, distributing clothing and footwear to employees and ordering items from our suppliers. We provide our employees with their professional wardrobe, and our team needs to always look its best.
- Technology & Tools – Assisting with the setup of company iPhones, Microsoft and Google accounts and helping employees troubleshoot everyday technology questions with support from IT when needed.
- Employee Records & Documentation – Maintaining accurate employee information and documentation in Payworks and our internal systems.
- Employee Support – Building positive relationships with employees across our locations, including many team members you may primarily interact with through Teams, email or telephone. Thankfully, there are pictures.
- Everything Else HR – The list above isn't everything. HR tends to be the catch-all, and there are always ongoing projects, employee initiatives and other day-to-day tasks to get involved in.
What Makes a Great HR Coordinator
Our strongest HR team members combine organization and good judgment with a genuine desire to help people.
You don't need to know the answer to every question. You do need to care enough to find it.
You are likely to succeed in this role if you:
- Naturally approach employee questions with an “Of course, how can I help?” mindset.
- Are highly organized and able to keep track of multiple priorities, deadlines and follow-ups.
- Pay close attention to details and understand the importance of accuracy when working with employee information and documentation.
- Take ownership of tasks and follow them through to completion.
- Communicate clearly, professionally and positively, both in person and electronically.
- Are comfortable building relationships with employees you may rarely see face-to-face.
- Understand that confidentiality and sound judgment are essential when working in Human Resources.
- Are comfortable saying, “I don't know, but I'll find out,” rather than guessing.
- Know when something needs to be brought forward to another member of the HR team.
- Can move from one task to another as priorities change throughout the day without losing track of what still needs to be completed.
- Are comfortable with technology and willing to learn new systems and processes.
- Receive feedback well and are willing to learn, adapt and improve.
- Present yourself professionally and understand the unique environment in which we work.
What You Bring
- Three years of relevant professional experience supporting Human Resources, recruitment, onboarding, employee services or similar functions is required.
- Formal Human Resources education, completed or currently enrolled, is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- A professional, approachable and 5-Star Customer Service mindset.
- Comfort working with technology and learning new systems.
- Experience with Payworks or another HRIS is considered an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Alberta employment legislation and HR practices is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a service-focused environment is considered an asset.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a full-time, in-office position working Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Starting wage of $28.00 per hour.
- Central southwest Calgary location with free parking.
Why McInnis & Holloway?
We've been serving Calgary families for generations, but that doesn't mean we believe the way we work should be stuck in the past.

- Team Incentive Program.
- Savings and RRSP matching programs.
- Paid vacation that begins accumulating from your first day of employment.
- Paid sabbatical program for eligible long-service employees.

- Employee referral bonus program.
- Company events and team-building programs.
