You would join a small finance team reporting directly to the CFO, with one Bookkeeper reporting to you. This is a hands-on role in a business where finance is close to the plant floor and your analysis directly shapes decisions about pricing, sourcing, and production.
The Role
We're looking for a Financial Accountant to own the monthly close, supervise our Bookkeeper, and — most importantly — bring rigour to our product costing and margin analysis. To be clear about the shape of this job: day-to-day transactional entry sits with the Bookkeeper. You are not doing data entry. You are reviewing, approving, and controlling that work, then spending your time where it counts — on the close, on compliance, and on understanding why our costs and margins move the way they do.
What You'll DoSupervision & Transactional Oversight
- Manage, coach, and review the work of one Bookkeeper; set priorities and hold the close calendar
- Review and approve the full accounts payable cycle — PO-to-invoice matching, approval routing, and payment runs processed by the Bookkeeper in our ERP
- Review credit card, bank, and sub-ledger reconciliations prepared by the Bookkeeper
- Oversee customer payment application and approve credit memos for customer deductions
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Own the monthly close: journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and month-end inventory adjustments
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules under ASPE
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and working capital reporting for the CFO
- Support year-end finalization and tax filing with our external accountants
Costing & Margin Analysis (the core of this role)
- Maintain standard costs and BOM cost roll-ups; investigate and explain variances
- Perform quarterly costing analysis across material, labour, and overhead — surface unexpected increases and recommend action
- Calculate landed cost on imported raw materials, including duty, freight, and FX
- Analyze margin by SKU, customer, and channel to support pricing decisions
- Track and reconcile trade spend, promotional accruals, retailer deductions, and chargebacks — including from US retail and foodservice accounts
Compliance & Filings
- File HST returns and remit payroll source deductions and WSIB on time
- Submit annual blue box supply data to the Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) for Ontario and Alberta
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation
Systems & Business Partnering
- Liaise with IT on ERP master data setup and new process implementation
- Maintain and improve the sales dashboard on Power BI, and build additional reporting tools for the sales team
- Identify and drive process improvements across the finance function
What You'll BringRequired
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation, or actively enrolled in the CPA program
- Minimum 5 years' progressive accounting experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals and prepayments, general ledger, and payroll
- Working knowledge of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment — standard costing, BOM costing, and variance analysis
- Strong knowledge of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises)
- Hands-on experience with a manufacturing ERP system.
- Advanced Excel — pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulas
- Proficiency in Power BI
- Experience supervising or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff
- High attention to detail and the judgment to know which numbers matter
Preferred
- Experience in food manufacturing or CPG
- Familiarity with retail and foodservice trade spend, deductions, and chargebacks
- Exposure to USD transactions and foreign exchange gain/loss
- Experience with EDI-based customer accounts
Compensation & Benefits
- $65,000–$75,000 per year, depending on experience
- Performance-driven bonus
- Extended health care

- We cover 100% of your CPA Ontario annual dues, plus a $1,500 annual allowance for CPD and technical training.

- On-site at our Mississauga, ON facility — applicants must be able to reliably commute or relocate before starting
- Occasional extended hours during month-end close, year-end, and physical inventory counts
