Our niche, 'upmarket' ladieswear client is located in downtown Toronto.

They require a highly-talented Technical Product Developer.

The Technical Product Developer will work closely with the Creative Director and Associate Creative Director in the Design Department to manage all areas of the design and the development cycle, ensuring that all garments produced satisfy quality standards in terms of fit, construction, detailing and workmanship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To assist and manage all areas of the development cycle: full package specs/tech packs, trims, labels and all raw materials developments as necessary.
Maintain proper execution of the apparel/accessories development cycle by executing detailed specs/tech packs, and corresponding on a daily basis with team members, technician, production and sourcing departments to achieve competitive, time sensitive solutions.
Work closely on sampling and testing of fabric/textiles, providing new and fresh ideas of mixing and combining materials
Evaluate points of measure and grade rules regularly to ensure garment specs are complete and consistent.
Understands multiple project management with the ability to switch gears to meet timelines and company objectives.
From concept through to production, all developing specs need to meet the required aesthetic and fit intent, from original samples, sketches or photo direction provided by Creative Director and design team.
Collaborate with design team to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit intent and construction
Effectively communicate fit intent, balance and construction through fit notes, diagrams, and digital photos, technical details
Evaluate garment to determine compliance of fit, spec and construction from initial fit sample through production fit approval.
Maintain size and fit consistency within assigned product categories through consistency in measurements, construction, grade rules and tolerances.
Identify potential production, quality, costing, and design issues and make appropriate recommendations while maintaining Brand aesthetic
Participate in fit sessions - attend model fittings and take detailed fit measurements, enter specs and grading
Work with the production and sales departments to produce the best possible fits/designs for our customers

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 + years' experience as a technical designer, taking FIT measurements, inspecting garments, developing spec sheets and tech packs etc.
Proficient knowledge of all necessary software tools as required; Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign, Excel.
To have an understanding of various types of fabrics, yarns, knitwear, and raw materials
Formal apparel design education and experience is mandatory.
Diploma in a fashion related field or relevant experience
Excellent knowledge of fabric/textiles, sewing techniques and construction options
Expertise in patternmaking, fit development and grading for multiple product types.
Knowledge of garment construction standards and manufacturing methods
Knowledge of PAD or Gerber System is a bonus
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to proactively troubleshoot and problem solve
Detail oriented
Work well independently, but most importantly as part of a team
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
