We are currently seeking an experienced Manual Lathe Operator to join our growing team.
Job Description
The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years of experience operating manual engine lathes in a manufacturing or machine shop environment. You should be capable of independently setting up and machining precision parts from engineering drawings while maintaining tight tolerances and producing high-quality work.
This position is best suited for a dependable machinist who takes pride in craftsmanship, pays close attention to detail, and works efficiently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual engine lathes to manufacture precision components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
- Select appropriate tooling, work-holding methods, cutting speeds, and feeds.
- Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, grooving, and other manual machining operations.
- Machine a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and plastics.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and thread gauges.
- Maintain tight tolerances and ensure all work meets customer specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Work independently while meeting production schedules and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience operating manual engine lathes (required).
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Experience machining precision components to tight tolerances.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience machining custom parts, prototypes, and short production runs.
- Experience operating manual milling machines is considered an asset.
- Forklift experience is an asset but not required.
