Job Description:
As a Pipelayer with PFM Construction, you will be responsible for the installation of various types of underground utilities. You will ensure that all utilities are installed according to local and municipal specifications, at the correct grade and elevation. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong safety practices, and effective communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install underground utilities including HDPE, telephone/hydro, PVC, concrete, and ductile iron, ensuring correct grade and elevations.
- Install manholes, headwalls, catch basins, lawn basins, and other pre-cast structures.
- Coordinate closely with the Grademan, Equipment Operator, and Topman to ensure efficient project completion.
- Identify and address any concerns or potential issues, and communicate them to your team leads or supervisor.
- Participate in various construction-related activities as needed.
- Maintain open communication with team members, team leads, and foremen, and provide leadership to junior employees.
- Adhere strictly to safety practices, especially around trenches and heavy equipment, being fully aware of your surroundings, minimizing hazards, and reporting any injuries or damage immediately.
- Participate in site and safety meetings, and maintain active communication with your supervisor and co-workers.
- Complete all required daily safety paperwork promptly and thoroughly.
- Undertake industry-specific, project-specific, or safety-specific training as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Attributes:
- Minimum of 3 years of civil experience in water, sanitary, storm, hydro/telephone utilities.
- Experience in the installation of manholes, headwalls, catch basins, and other pre-cast structures.
- Strong understanding of industry-standard safe working procedures, particularly around trenches and heavy equipment.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment.
- High attention to detail and a strong desire to provide high-quality workmanship.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address issues proactively.
- Physically capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work 5 to 6 days a week, 8+ hours per day, including extended hours as needed.
- Ability to commute to various job site locations in the Lower Mainland.
