Currently we are recruiting for an experienced Manufacturing & Process Engineer to join our team. This is a full-time, reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Manager and will be responsible for defining the manufacturing process. Highly technical position. This is a critical position as it directly affects our bottom line.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contract Review ensure scope of work on PO meets quoted requirements. Work closely with Quoting, purchasing, programming, and manufacturing team members:
- Review PO details for accuracy, review of all dwg’s, documents and spec to correct revision.
- Work closely with purchasing to ensure subcontracted and long lead time items are highlighted.
- Define Manufacturing process plan for all new work (decide how the job is going to be manufactured) including but not limited to:
- Sequencing of pre-machining, welding, machining, assembly, subcontract operations etc. input from estimator on assumption/planned process steps as well as key technical staff may be required.
- Define job traveller/router requirements and how its going to flow on the shop floor to maintain traceability of product and scanning of hours on travellers for accurate job costing.
- The job traveller/router becomes the roadmap to ensure successful processing. The level of detail required needs to consider the complexity of the part, number of units, number of operations (welding, machining, assembly, stress relieving, painting etc.), the various machining centres to be used, facilities, safety concerns, level of traceability, material handling requirements, transportation, packing, QC checks, 3rd party witnessing etc.
- Part stage models, operation drawings and fixture drawings when required.
- Work with design engineering, programmers, plant managers, supervisors, and tool crib to finalize design and ensure material is ordered and fixture/tooling is ready for the job when needed.
- Proper fixturing and tooling can make or break a job. Careful consideration to lead times cost / benefit of different approaches require thoughtful consideration and input from key technical resources. Anticipating potential issues that may arise during each operation requires a visualization of the various steps required to successfully fabricate / machine / assemble a part.
- Use of SolidWorks / AutoCAD software tools would be an asset.
- Prioritize job processing based on rush order requirements, due dates, long material lead times etc.
- Will need to develop product BOM and manufacturing plan in ERP system including creating of part #’s, process, and issuing packages for shop floor.
- Following ABS established safety practices and procedures.
- It is expected that all communications and work instructions reinforce the importance of safety. Fixtures, clamping, material handling, crating, packing require careful consideration to potential risks.
Future projects:
- Assist with implementation of new ERP system.
- Assist in implementation of new document control system for all DWG, specs, revisions, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications / Qualifications:
- General machinist with 5 years minimum shop floor experience and proven track record of understanding manufacturing processes is a must.
- Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing background.
- Strong knowledge of all manufacturing process specifically machining, welding, forming and post weld heat treat (PWHT).
- Strong knowledge in tooling is a must.
- Knowledge of CNC programming would be an asset
- Strong blueprint, GD&T is a must.
- Working with ERP systems is a definite asset.
- Strong analytical skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to organize own work effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
