Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Field Safety Supervisor to lead safety initiatives across our operational sites. In this vital role, you will oversee the implementation of safety protocols, conduct regular site inspections, and promote a culture of safety awareness among team members. Your energetic approach will ensure compliance with industry standards and foster a secure working environment that prioritizes the well-being of all personnel. Responsibilities:
- Advises and assists the most senior construction site representative in the establishment and management of HSMS processes, identifying and eliminating/controlling any hazards.
- Attend meetings as requested (e.g., Enoch, subcontractor, client, and community). Communicate pertinent information to leadership and other stakeholders as needed.
- Utilize safety management software to document incidents, meetings, inspections, orientations, observations, and corrective actions.
- Conduct inspections as requested.
- Review contractor documentation associated with work activities to confirm that a proper hazard assessment has been completed and that the required permits are in place related to the responsibility of a Prime contractor.
- Engage managers and supervisors in the risk assessment process for new or modified work activities.
- Participate in the development and/or review of Job hazard analysis (JSA) as requested, and other safety procedure and policy documents.
- Provide safety orientations (as needed) to personnel, including Enoch employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
- Oversee provision and documentation of first aid treatment and communication to appropriate personnel when applied.
- Assist supervisors with conducting incident investigations to ensure the identification of root causes and corrective actions.
- Assist supervisor with communication with workers (liaison to Joint Health and Safety Committee) regarding corrective actions from investigations and inspections.
- Complete prequalification of potential contractors and review of safety plans before mobilization.
- Develop and/or provide training materials to workers as requested.
- Maintain active and visible involvement using open communication with employees and stakeholders regarding HSMS issues on the project.
- Advises and assists the most senior construction site representative in the establishment and management of Environmental programs for carbon reduction, waste management, recycling, and wildlife.
- Provide reports using safety management software data and other project-based data sources, including data from subcontractors, for leading and lagging safety indicators.
- Assist as requested with
- Internal or external audits and corrective action plans.
- Modified work programs, as well as WCB claims management.
- Site Emergency response planning, equipment, and drills.
- Site safety celebration plans.
- Equipment pre-use inspections.
- Competency tracking.
- Wildlife surveys, including regulations regarding migratory birds.
- Ecological surveys
- Historical resources survey.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate or assigned by the Safety Manager or senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Occupational Safety and Health training from a recognized education institution or related field (or equivalent experience) and typically 5+ years of related work experience in the field of Health and Safety.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, codes, and reporting procedures, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills.
- CRSP / CSP Designation
- Preference to candidates with work experience in industrial and civil construction, oil and gas, and heavy mobile equipment earthworks.
- Valid driver's licence
- Ability to travel and work remotely from work camps or other accommodations to support projects- as needed.
- Have valid or able to acquire as a pre-employment condition First aid, Ground disturbance level II, H2S Alive, CSTS-20, and WHMIS certificates.
- Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products, including hoisting and/or participating in remote/virtual meetings.
- Familiar with third-party certification systems (IsNet world, Avetta, and Complyworks) would be an asset.
