Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
The Manager of Emergency & Security Services is currently seeking a Part Time Driver. The purpose of the position is to provide patient-centered transportation services including shuttle services to and from various locations in the province and courier services of small items related to hospital business

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Driving vehicles such as vans, cars to transport staff, and ministry clients, including assisting passengers, as required, e.g. those in wheelchairs.
- Providing courier, pick-up and delivery services for small items like cakes, office supplies, banking needs, and ensuring safety of sensitive, fragile and perishable materials/goods.
- Performing regular inspections and routine maintenance on vehicles to maintain safe operation including, vehicle fueling, fleet vehicle fueling checking oil, tire pressure, brakes and washing/cleaning vehicles, cleaning vehicles inside and outside, recommending major maintenance and repairs to supervisor; delivering and picking up hospital vehicles when serviced.
- Performing tasks such as maintaining records, compiling statistics on vehicle maintenance and logging gas and oil usage.
- Performing general tasks such as assisting with moving client’s personal effects.
- Managers have the right to assign additional duties and schedule alternate work locations based on operational requirements.
- Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc.) relevant to health and safety, security and potential risk hazards.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Ontario Class “G” drivers license – Required

Valid Ontario Class “F” drivers license or greater - Preferred

Hospital policies procedures and guidelines including those relating to confidentiality and patient privacy, relevant sections of Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and other workplace legislation.

Operating requirements and driving techniques for the various types of vehicles used when carrying out job tasks, e.g. vans, cars up to 9 passenger van, to ensure safe operation of vehicles; the rules of the road and regulations under the Highway Traffic Act to practice safe driving.

Routine preventive maintenance requirements and techniques to maintain vehicles in safe operating condition, e.g. to check oil, tire pressure, brakes; record keeping requirements to track the usage and maintenance of vehicles; vehicle radio equipment operations to maintain contact with the office; GPS assigned geographic area in order to carry out transportation and courier duties efficiently and to be able to select best alternate routes when necessary.

Basic crisis intervention in order to intervene if a client acts out while in transit in vehicle.

Defensive Driving course would be an asset.

Analytical thinking skills to determine how to change or adjust route dependent on the time of day and traffic conditions, explain to supervisor when major maintenance or repairs are required; decide when to perform minor maintenance such as checking and topping oil, checking tire pressure and wear and determining how to deal with clients and/or staff in the event of an emergency, e/g/ accident or medical emergency.

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills when performing people and materials pick-up and delivery services.

Written communication skills to maintain records and logs of vehicle usage, maintenance and repairs and to compile monthly statistical data and complete accident reports.

Job requires ability to read maps, use GPS, use computer to determine routes, follow directions and listen to instructions when operating vehicle radio equipment.
