Part-Time Bookkeeper / Payroll Administrator
MKM Projects Ltd. is a mid-sized Construction Manager delivering projects throughout Vancouver Island. We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper / Payroll Administrator to support our day-to-day accounting operations.
This is a hands-on position focused on accounts payable, payroll administration, accounting data entry, and maintaining complete and organized documentation.
This role is ideal for a self-starter with strong attention to detail, as accuracy is essential to the nature of the work. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently, managing recurring responsibilities, and following up when information is incomplete.

Position Details
- Approximately 20 hours per week to start
- Hours spread over 3–4 days per week
- Ideally, working hours will fall between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Hourly wage $25-$30 depending on experience
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable & Vendor Administration
- Receive, review, code and enter vendor invoices
- Coordinate invoice approvals with Project Managers
- Prepare payment runs for review and approval
- Maintain accurate vendor records
- Process employee expense reports and company credit-card transactions
- Respond to vendor account and payment inquiries
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies
Payroll Administration
- Collect and review employee hours and supporting documentation
- Process regular payroll accurately and on schedule
- Maintain employee payroll information and records
- Process vacation, statutory holiday, benefit and other payroll-related information
Project & Accounting Administration
- Enter subcontracts and purchase orders into Spectrum as provided by the Project Management team
- Maintain accurate project and vendor information within Spectrum
- Enter and maintain accounting information and supporting documentation
- Assist the Controller / Project Accountant with general accounting administration as required
Documentation & Trade Compliance
- Collect and maintain required subcontractor and vendor documentation, including WCB clearance, Certificates of Insurance, statutory declarations and other required documentation
- Ensure required documentation is complete, current and properly filed
What We're Looking For
- Previous bookkeeping, accounts payable and payroll experience
- Construction-industry experience is preferred but not required
- Experience with Spectrum / Viewpoint Spectrum is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage recurring responsibilities and deadlines independently
- Good working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office
- Comfortable following up for missing information or documentation
- Able to recognize discrepancies and bring them forward for review rather than making assumptions
- Willingness and ability to learn new systems and processes
The Right Fit
The successful candidate will be dependable, organized and comfortable taking ownership of their day-to-day responsibilities. They should have the confidence to identify discrepancies, ask questions when something does not look right, and follow through on outstanding items.
Experience in construction accounting would be an asset, but attention to detail, initiative and the ability to learn our processes are equally important.
