The Role: We are hiring for both our Residential homes as well as for our Supported Independent Living (SILP) program in the community of Saskatoon. In collaboration with the management team, the Disability Support Worker supports our individuals to live independently and be inclusive in their own community and help them achieve a higher quality of life standard while focusing on their goals and aspirations alike.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to clients with various and individual needs.
- Assist clients in daily living activities, such as personal care, meal preparation, and mobility.
- Provide companionship and support to clients
- Administer medications as prescribed by healthcare professionals
- Assist with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring dietary requirements are met
- Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Escort clients to appointments or social outings
- Document client progress and report any changes or concerns to the supervisor
- Foster a supportive and empowering environment for clients to thrive.
- Employees may be exposed to the risk of violent (behavioral) situations in which training reinforces safety concerns and assists in precautionary measures.
- Conduct assessments to understand clients’ unique requirements and develop personalized care plans.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure personalized support for each client.
- Monitor progress and adjust care plans as needed.
- Advocate for clients’ rights and access to community resources.
- Work closely with families, caregivers, and external agencies to enhance clients’ quality of life.
- Attend meetings and represent clients’ interests.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of client interactions, progress, and incidents.
- Complete necessary paperwork related to client care and funding requirements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Support Worker or in a related field.
- Familiarity with disability support services, mental health, or social work.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
Skills:
- Compassion, patience, and empathy.
- Strong communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and respond effectively to emergencies.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Certification or diploma in a relevant field is preferred).
Licence/Certification (Required):
- Recent clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
- Experienced Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
- PART or NVCI or MANDT Training.
- Current First Aid and CPR training.
