As Carbon Engineering has grown, the management of its information technology systems needs to advance to reflect the demands of a larger company in an ever-changing world. The Manager, Information Technology provides leadership to identify, select and implement technology solutions that align with the organization’s strategic direction.
Reporting to the COO and VP Accounting, and working closely with other company managers
Determine information technology requirements for the entire organization, researching and anticipating current and future needs and providing guidance, support and services aligned with those needs
Balance a mix of strategic, operational, and administrative priorities to ensure information technology systems further the organization’s goals, increase efficiency, enhance workflows, improve employee satisfaction, and support decision making at all levels of the organization
Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the department including infrastructure, administration of systems, networks, project management, technical support, and leadership of the Information Technology team
This position can be full time in Squamish BC, or approximately half time in Squamish, BC, and half time in Vancouver, BC.
Leads long-range and strategic and operational planning for IT architecture, systems, and solutions, by defining scope, estimating and budgeting for required resources, and prioritising and planning for projects that support the strategic business objectives of the organization.
Researches, analyzes, proposes, designs, implements, monitors, and evaluates IT infrastructure solutions.
Leads IT project coordination and management, including definition of scope and requirements, resourcing, budgeting, work planning, testing strategy, change management strategy, communication plan, technical requirements, and training and documentation requirements.
Develops policies, procedures, and standards to ensure system integrity and accurate security access for all users, IT and business systems; ensures the maintenance of system documentation.
Ensures quality, accuracy, security, privacy, compliance and integrity of data, hardware, and software, whether in-house or externally supported.
Interfaces with company’s industrial IT team, to create and maintain secure company wide IT systems.
Assesses security risks, and contributes to the development of policies, procedures, and contingency plans to minimize the effects of security breaches.
Oversees provision of outside technical support services for IT systems components and IT infrastructure including hardware, software, and critical systems.
Works closely with the Director, Financial and Business Systems and other team members in the implementation and maintenance of on premises and cloud bases business systems, such as the ERP system, computerized maintenance management system, intra & extra nets, and document & contract management systems. Provides oversight to daily operational events such as event and error logs, connectivity verification.
Negotiates and administers vendor contracts and service agreements and analyzes licensing agreements, ensuring they are meeting the expected service needs, security, communication, and contractual obligations.
Develops and proposes the annual budget for IT services.
Responsible for the hiring, evaluation, and professional development of the Information Technology team.
Education: University degree in IT/Computer Science or related field
Experience: 7+ years’ experience in a combination of system administration and IT management
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office 365, Teams, and SharePoint
Experience managing Cloud platforms and SaaS applications
Competent in a Microsoft on-premises and cloud computing environment including Microsoft 365, Azure, and on-premises Active Directory
Strong project management experience
Demonstrates an enthusiasm for aligning IT systems and services with the company’s business objectives, to meet the new challenges and business demands as the company grows
