Journeyperson Welder — Stainless SMAW (CWB Qualified)

CHC is a wholly owned subsidiary of BC Hydro formed in 1962 that provides the qualified skilled trades workforce for generation facility projects in the Province of
British Columbia named in a collective agreement between CHC and the Allied
Hydro Council of British Columbia. CHC provides the labour resources in accordance with the terms and conditions of the collective agreement and provides other human resources and labour relations functions.
AELGP (Aecon–EBC Joint Venture) | Ladore Spillway Seismic Upgrade Project | Campbell River, BC
The role. AELGP requires journeyperson ironworkers who can perform structural steel erection and field SMAW welding of low-carbon steel. Approximately one (1) year duration, Monday to Friday, 10-hour shifts. Work is performed outdoors at an operating hydroelectric facility, including work at heights and over water.
Key responsibilities
- Structural steel erection: rigging, hoisting, connecting, bolting and aligning structural steel
- Field SMAW welding of low-carbon steel with E4918 (E7018) electrodes per approved project WPS SMAW-STEEL (CSA W47.1 / CSA W59)
- Joint fit-up and preparation; supporting CWB and third-party inspection
Mandatory qualifications
- Must qualify as a Local Resident under the CHC Collective Agreement (cl. 1.314): resident within a one hundred (100) kilometre radius of the Ladore worksite for six (6) months prior to the commencement of construction (proof of residency required)
- Journeyperson ironworker with structural steel erection experience
- Current CWB welder qualification under CSA W47.1 — SMAW, carbon steel, all-position or minimum (F, H, V), fillet and groove, plate — with CWB welder ID and test records
- Ability to successfully complete site-specific qualification/mock-up welding to the project WPS prior to production release
Assets
- Interprovincial Red Seal Ironworker (Generalist or Structural/Ornamental) certification
- Hydroelectric, dam, or heavy civil erection and field welding experience
- Rigging, elevated work platform, and fall protection tickets
Terms. Employment is through Columbia Hydro Constructors Ltd. under the Allied Hydro Council collective agreement; dispatch through the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local Union 97. Journeyperson Ironworker wages, benefits, travel, and living-out allowances per the agreement.
You will be required to join the Ironworkers Union Local 97
Pay: $52.42 per hour
