Kerkhoff: Develop Build is a Western Canadian real estate developer and general contractor with over five decades of experience building mixed use, multi family, and commercial communities. Our current work in Victoria includes the University Heights development. We are looking for a Construction Safety Officer to join our site team and help us maintain a strong culture of safety across an active construction site.
About the Role
The Construction Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and maintaining health and safety standards on site. This role enforces safety protocols, provides first aid, participates in Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings, and ensures accurate reporting of accidents and incidents in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements and company practice. The role reports to the General Superintendent and involves daily interaction with trades, site leadership, and visitors.
What You Will Do
- Implement and enforce health and safety standards across the construction site.
- Provide first aid and respond effectively and calmly to on site incidents.
- Participate in Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Ensure all accidents, incidents, and injuries are properly reported and recorded in accordance with WorkSafeBC and company requirements.
- Process required documentation, including Form 7 and accident investigation reports.
- Independently conduct site health and safety orientations for new workers and visitors.
- Support strong administrative and organizational practices across the site safety program.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates with direct Construction Safety Officer experience, as well as candidates with Assistant Site Superintendent experience who have a strong safety background and are looking to move into a dedicated safety role. Relevant site leadership experience is considered a valuable asset even without a formal safety title.
Depending on the candidate, Kerkhoff will also consider structuring this position as a combined Construction Safety Officer and Assistant Site Superintendent role for someone with the experience and capacity to carry both functions on site.
- Thorough knowledge of WorkSafeBC procedures and on site safety practices.
- CSO certification.
- Experience in residential or multi family construction.
- Current OFA Level 2 or Level 3 certificate.
- Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Formwork or industrial construction experience is an asset.
- Experience operating a Zoom Boom is an asset.
- Experience with digital safety platforms such as Procore or SiteDocs is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience and certification. This range reflects current market conditions for experienced Construction Safety Officers on Vancouver Island and is aligned with compensation for comparable roles within Kerkhoff.
Where the role is structured as a combined Construction Safety Officer and Assistant Site Superintendent position, compensation will be adjusted upward to reflect the expanded scope and will be discussed directly with qualified candidates.
