Wage: $16.85–$18.64 per hour
Farraline Home is seeking a reliable, compassionate, and motivated individual to join our team as a Casual Cross-Trained Cook / Home Support Worker. This unique position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their workday and is interested in supporting seniors in both the kitchen and throughout the home.
Successful applicants will be trained to work in both positions and will be scheduled as operational needs require.
Shift Information
- Cook: 10-hour daytime shifts.
- Home Support Worker: 12-hour day shifts (7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.) and night shifts (7:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.).
- This is a casual position with opportunities to pick up available shifts, including vacation coverage, sick relief, and other scheduling needs. Applicants must be available to work both day and night Home Support Worker shifts.
Cook Responsibilities
- Prepare nutritious, home-style meals and snacks for approximately 15–20 residents.
- Follow established menus and recipes while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Accommodate dietary needs, including allergies and diabetic-friendly meals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
- Follow safe food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
- Manage meal preparation efficiently to ensure meals are served on schedule.
- Monitor kitchen inventory and report supply needs.
- Work independently and take initiative throughout each shift.
Home Support Worker Responsibilities
- Perform housekeeping and maintain resident living spaces.
- Support residents with day-to-day needs while promoting independence.
- Assist residents with receiving medications as directed by facility policy.
- Serve meals and assist residents in the dining room.
- Answer doors and welcome visitors.
- Observe resident wellbeing and report any changes or concerns.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
- Work independently while providing compassionate, resident-focused care.
Qualifications Required
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Reliable, organized, compassionate, and dependable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Cook Experience
- Experience preparing home-style meals for groups of 15 or more.
- Experience following menus and standardized recipes.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and kitchen sanitation.
- Experience accommodating dietary restrictions and special diets.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Experience with batch cooking is considered an asset.
Home Support Experience
- Experience working with seniors in a residential care, assisted living, nursing home, or similar setting is considered an asset.
- Comfortable supporting older adults with daily routines in a respectful and compassionate manner.
- Ability to use sound judgment and maintain resident confidentiality.
