The Heritage Hall Preservation Society is seeking a reliable, hands-on Facilities and Building Maintenance Supervisor to help care for one of Vancouver’s most cherished heritage buildings.
This is a diverse and active role that combines facilities management, custodial supervision, event support, customer service, and building maintenance. The successful candidate will help ensure our historic building remains clean, safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for tenants, community groups, event clients, and visitors.
This position supervises a small team of part-time custodial staff and reports to the Building Operations and Rental Manager.

What You’ll Do:
- Conduct regular building inspections and identify maintenance needs
- Perform minor repairs, touch-up painting, light plumbing, and other general maintenance tasks
- Coordinate contractors, service providers, inspections, and repairs
- Maintain building equipment, furniture, storage areas, and supplies
- Assist with seasonal outdoor maintenance including light gardening, snow removal, litter cleanup, and grounds upkeep
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules
- Obtain quotes for larger repairs and oversee contractor work as required.
Custodial Supervision:
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time custodial staff
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout the facility
- Conduct quality-control inspections and spot checks
- Review timesheets and assist with staffing coverage and scheduling
- Monitor inventory and order custodial supplies as required.
Event & Venue Support:
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, staging, screens, and other equipment according to event floor plans
- Support renters and event clients as needed
- Document and report damages or maintenance concerns
- Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use.
Safety & Security
- Open and secure the building as required
- Respond to urgent facility issues
- Schedule and support annual fire inspections, backflow testing, and other regulatory requirements
- Help maintain a safe environment for staff, tenants, renters, and visitors
Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of custodial, building maintenance, facilities, or related experience
- Previous supervisory experience is required
- Minimum one year of cleaning or janitorial experience
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize competing demands
- Experience with minor plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, or renovation work is an asset
- WHMIS certification and Building Services Worker training are assets
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle (MANDITIORY)
- Clear criminal record check
Physical Requirements - this is a physically demanding position requiring:
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Moving furniture and equipment
- Repetitive bending, stretching, reaching, pushing, and pulling
- Operation of floor cleaning equipment and other maintenance tools.

Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- On-call availability is required for urgent building issues
- Must be available for occasional after-hours emergencies, special events, and statutory holidays when required.

Experience:
- supervising custodial or maintenance staff: 1 year (required)
