Join the culinary team at Canada Life Centre and help create memorable food experiences for our guests. We’re seeking passionate, dependable, and team-oriented Prep Cooks and Cooks.
Working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, you will help deliver consistent, high-quality food while maintaining exceptional standards for food safety, sanitation, organization, and guest experience.
What to be excited for in this role:
- Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to recipes, production schedules, portion standards, and quality expectations.
- Complete food preparation, portioning, plating, batch cooking, and other production tasks required for events and daily kitchen operations.
- Take responsibility for assigned kitchen stations and ensure efficient food production during service.
- Support chefs and culinary leadership with menu execution and high-volume event operations.
- Monitor food quality, temperatures, freshness, portion control, and presentation to ensure consistency.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior cooks and kitchen assistants on food preparation techniques, recipes, equipment, and kitchen procedures.
- Receive, unpack, and inspect food deliveries for accuracy, quality, freshness, and compliance with food safety standards.
- Report damaged, expired, or incorrect products and assist with resolving discrepancies with vendors.
- Accurately log received products and ensure food is properly stored in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas.
- Rotate stock and maintain organized, clean, and efficient storage areas.
- Retrieve orders from suppliers that do not provide delivery services.
- Assist with inventory control, stock rotation, receiving, and storage.
- Minimize food waste through proper preparation, storage, portion control, and product rotation.
- Ensure all necessary ingredients, tools, and equipment are available for kitchen production.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and workplace safety.
- Support kitchen opening, setup, service, closing, cleaning, and dishwashing procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and work environment.
- Work collaboratively with chefs, cooks, kitchen assistants, and other team members in a fast-paced event environment.
- Perform other duties as required and assigned in support of the organization and kitchen operations.
What we need from you:
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, catering, hospitality, or high-volume food production environment.
- 1–3+ years of kitchen experience, depending on the level of the position and demonstrated culinary skills.
- Food Handler/Food Safe certification.
- Strong food preparation and cooking skills, with advanced culinary skills considered an asset.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and workplace safety standards.
- Ability to accurately follow recipes, production specifications, and portion guidelines.
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Strong time management, organization, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to food quality and consistency.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment and safe operating procedures.
- Experience with inventory control, receiving, stock rotation, and food cost management is an asset.
- Ability to train, mentor, or support junior kitchen staff is an asset.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Ability to bend, reach, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Availability to work daytime, evening, and weekends, and event-based shifts as required.
