Training & Development
We are committed to investing in our officers by providing one of Canada’s top-tier training programs. Minimum Requirements
To become an EPS officer, the most important qualification is a sincere desire to help others. We look for individuals driven by compassion, community, and a dedication to service. In addition to these personal qualities, applicants must also meet the necessary legal minimum requirements:
- 18 years of age or older at the time of application
- No criminal conviction for which a pardon has not been granted
- Canadian citizen or legal permanent resident at the time of application
- In excellent health with no impending conditions
- Must meet visual and hearing examination standards
- Grade 12 high school diploma (Alberta standard) or equivalent; for International Applicants, an IQAS certificate or WES certificate is required
- Good written and verbal skills in English
- Two years of recent and verifiable employment, and/or two years of post-secondary education
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
- Good driving record (maximum of five demerits)
- Current certificate in standard first aid
- Minimum 16-hour course with Provincial Occupational Health and Safety approval. A certificate must be issued within one year prior to the date of application
- Current “Level C” certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Standards equivalent to those of the Canadian/American Heart and Stroke Foundation
Constable Salary Range
1st Year Constable - $76,291
2nd Year Constable - $80,843
3rd Year Constable - $94,512
4th Year Constable - $103,619
5th Year Constable - $113,869
*Earning potential increases with: court time, extra duty, shift differentials, overtime and stat holidays
