Minimum Requirements
- RN with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Manitoba
- Operating Room certification from an accredited program– Certificate required
- Current BCLS certification is required
- Proven focus to provide excellent patient care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary team of care providers, with emphasis on assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health
Qualifications
- 2-4 years' recent experience in an acute care setting in the operating room/ambulatory care environment that includes but not limited to assisting, scrubbing/circulating in the operating room, and ambulatory services
- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification preferred. Completion of a recognized operating room course or a combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work independently within the surgical/ambulatory services environment to maintain patient flow
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical/ambulatory procedures (including set up) and the continuum of care for the surgical patient that includes the pre-intra-post operative patient experience
- Must be capable to set up and care for minor and major surgical procedures and anticipate the needs of patients and physicians
- Proven motivation to pursue educational goals
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team
- Implement plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions
- Assessing and understanding the unique needs of the surgical patients
- Strong proficiency and willingness to work at the full scope of practice (as outlined by CRNM)
Physical Requirements:
- The work environment is physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, such as lifting, bending, and transferring patients.
- At times, RNs may work in challenging and stressful circumstances, such as in an emergency. Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient conditions.
- During the course of their work RNs may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals and other safety hazards. Adherence to IP&C standards are required.
