Are you a recent law school graduate looking to start your legal career in a dynamic organization where your work directly supports public safety? E-Comm is looking for an Articling Student to join our Legal & Governance team and gain hands-on experience across a broad range of legal matters.
As an Articling Student, you’ll work under the supervision of two qualified lawyers and have the opportunity to contribute to legal research, analysis, drafting and providing advice across areas including contracts, corporate governance, privacy, policy development and legislation review. You’ll work with increasing independence and may take responsibility for legal matters within the scope permitted by the Law Society of British Columbia.
This is an opportunity to develop your legal skills while working alongside experienced legal professionals in an organization that provides critical life-safety services to communities across B.C.
What You'll Do:
- Legal Advice & Contracts: Assist in providing legal advice, primarily on vendor contracts for E-Comm and service contracts with E-Comm's clients.
- Governance: Support governance activities through legal research, analysis and advice, particularly in the context of anticipated corporate and governance restructuring.
- Policy Development and Information Governance: Assist with the development and implementation of organizational policies, including work related to information governance. This may include work related to records and information management, data ownership and custody, data sharing and data security.
- Privacy & Access: Assist with privacy compliance, and access to information.
- Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct legal research and analysis and assist with drafting legal documents, correspondence and other materials.
What You'll Bring:
- An LLB or JD from an accredited law school in Canada.
- A strong interest in developing a broad legal practice within a public-sector and public-safety environment.
- Strong legal research, analytical and written communication skills.
- The ability to analyze complex issues, identify underlying considerations and develop practical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- A willingness to learn, seek feedback and take initiative in developing your professional capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work respectfully with individuals and teams across the organization.
- A high degree of integrity, professionalism and commitment to confidentiality.

Security Requirements
As a condition of employment at E-Comm, the required Police Security Clearance applicable to the position must be acquired and maintained. This is a process carried out by our law enforcement partner agencies, facilitated by E-Comm. The minimum residency in Canada to qualify for this position, as established by our law enforcement partner agencies, is 5 years.
To qualify for this process, a candidate may be either a Canadian Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen. We regret any candidates under Student, Visitor, or Work Visas are not eligible for consideration.
