Department: Maintenance and Operations
Position: Full Time Permanent
Hourly Compensation: $20.00–$24.00/hr – 40 hrs/week
Shift: Night time - Thursday to Monday – 5:00 pm to 1:00 am
2 x 15min breaks & 30 min dinner

Develop and carry out an intermittent building security check schedule and complete a log recording checks.

Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.

Utilize basic mechanical, plumbing, HVAC knowledge to patrol multiple venues including Horse stabling buildings, exterior and interior detecting any irregularities such as water leaks, power issues, sewer back ups, etc., and provide quick resolutions to issues.

Notifies police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention

Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of after-hours visitors or contractors to guard against theft and maintain security of premises and evict violators from premises, using force when necessary

Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.

Ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively

Basic office and log keeping, including some light computer skills·

Problem-solving skills·

Follows written and verbal instructions from the maintenance manager or clients.·

Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed.·

Reads and follows manuals, blueprints, and other written instructions.·

If required, use of equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools.

Reliable transportation to and from work and a Class 5 driver’s license

Comfortable around horses and stabling/barn areas

High School diploma

Written and oral communication

Ability to work in various temperatures

Strong team approach and willingness to assist others when necessary

Ability to problem solve and exhibit conflict resolution skills

Current certificate in Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (Asset)

Ability to speak a second language fluently (Asset)
Work is in a fast-paced work environment. Successful applicants must be willing to work in a variety of different settings, and must work well in both team and individual scenarios. The Spruce Meadows venue operates in all weather conditions, from early mornings into late nights and on weekends.
