About The Nash
The Nash Restaurant & Off Cut Bar is one of Calgary’s most enduring and respected independent dining destinations. Housed in Inglewood’s historic National Hotel, a building that has anchored this neighbourhood since 1907, The Nash is a chef-driven, live fire kitchen led by Chef and Proprietor Michael Noble. Our open-hearth cooking, commitment to Alberta ingredients, and the warmly spirited Off Cut Bar together create a dining experience that is both distinctly local and genuinely elevated.
We are proud of what we have built. We are equally clear-eyed about where we are going. This is a search for a leader who will help us get there.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an Assistant Restaurant Manager of genuine calibre, someone who understands what it means to lead a room, steward a culture, and serve as a key member, a driver of high-quality guest experiences in a passionate independently owned restaurant.
The Nash has a seasoned serving team, an established culinary vision, and a kitchen management structure that is firmly in place. You are not walking into a rebuild, you are walking into something that works and will be asked to be part of leading it forward with intention and pride.
This role sits near the top of the front of house, reporting to our Restaurant General Manager within a leadership structure that fully integrates culinary and service. You will have real autonomy, genuine operational support, and a proprietor who believes in giving his people the room to grow into their best work. This role is a starting point, how you grow and achieve your next plateaux rests firmly on you - how good is that!
We are building a long-term relationship. For the right person, this is a career-defining role.
What You Will Own
- Day-to-day floor leadership across lunch and dinner service, present and visible throughout
- Hiring, scheduling, coaching, and developing the front of house team
- Guest experience from first contact to farewell, setting and maintaining the standard for an outstanding but friendly and warm dining visit
- Reservation and floor management, ensuring the room runs with flow and intention
- Labour management and cost awareness in partnership with the Chef Proprietor (he values sharing this information with his Team as an opportunity for growth
- Private events and special programming coordination
- Front of house vendor and supplier relationships
- Service standards that authentically reflect the identity of The Nash
Who You Are
- You have a minimum of 2-4 years in a front of house leadership role, ideally in an elevated independent restaurant environment
- You lead from the floor, not the office, your team sees you during service, not only before and after it
- You understand and genuinely respect what it means to work in a chef-driven restaurant. The culinary vision is something you champion, not compete with
- You are a natural culture keeper; people follow you because they want to, not because they must
- You are financially literate enough to understand an operating budget and have an honest, informed conversation about it
- You are confident enough in your own ability to play a longer game, you don’t need the title to validate you; you need the right room and the right team
- You are rooted here in that you know Calgary, you understand Alberta hospitality, and you are building your career in this city
Our Leadership Structure
The Nash operates with an integrated leadership model where culinary and front of house are not siloed but rather, they are managed as one. The Assistant Restaurant Manager reports into the General Manager, who in turn is accountable to Chef and Proprietor Michael Noble.
This is not a structure that diminishes the Assistant Restaurant Manager role, it is one that makes it stronger. The vision is set, the culture is established, and your mandate is to lead the front of house with the same standard of craft and care that defines everything we do in the kitchen.
We will bring you in thoughtfully. There will be a structured integration period during which you learn the business, earn the room, and build the relationships that will make you effective. This is not a test; it is how we do things properly.
What We Offer
- A genuinely supportive ownership structure with real operational backing
- A team that is already excellent, your role is to be part of leading them, not rebuild from the ground up
- The opportunity to grow into a significant long-term leadership role at one of Calgary's most respected independent restaurants
- A strong compensation package commensurate with experience, including a comprehensive benefits plan
- Staff meals and a real sense of community around the table
- Heated underground parking - because Calgary winters shouldn't be part of the job description
- A dining room and a vibrant neighbourhood worth showing up for, every single day
