The Director of Partnerships and Legal Counsel reports to the CAO and is responsible for overseeing UTSC’s legal affairs, including contract drafting and review, development and land use planning, construction and procurement, government and corporate relations, and generally providing advice on complex and significant legal, policy, governance and administrative matters to all parts of the UTSC. The Director of Partnerships and Legal Counsel also acts as a liaison between UTSC and other University Legal Counsel for all general legal matters and works closely with UTSC staff and faculty to provide legal guidance and coordinate matters with internal and external counsel on various projects and issues.
Under direction of the Director of Partnerships and Legal Counsel, the Legal Assistant provides efficient support in a highly self-directed manner and frequently deals with highly confidential information. The incumbent will manage and provide a full range of administrative support to counsel, design and maintain a highly complex and confidential legal filing system and coordinate and track files and assignments. They will provide research and highlight issues of legal significance, review, screen, and report on mail and items, assign priority and handle routine matters. The Legal Assistant will arrange meetings, take meeting minutes, manage Director’s calendar, gather materials for external counsel retained by UTSC, provide information and support during confidential negotiations that will result in an impact on the UTSC campus, and its faculty and staff. They will review, track and process expense reimbursements and department accounts and coordinate the ordering of supplies and office purchases.
College Diploma in legal/secretarial assistant or law clerk program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of legal administrative experience required.
Proficiency with MS Office, scheduling and e-mail software; strong accurate keyboard skills. Familiarity with web search and research tools, effective problem solving skills. Familiarity with Sharepoint and iManage an asset.

Familiarity with or ability to learn and apply fundamentals of legal processes and litigation management.
