Reporting to the President of Rogers Sports and Media (RSM), the SVP of Strategy, Data and Partnerships is an integral role on the RSM Senior Leadership team. This is a very exciting time to be at RSM as we evolve our traditional media lines to embrace a future infused with rich data, automation, and digital insights.
This role will be critical in helping to shape our strategy, establishing local, global and internal partnerships and driving our approach to data/analytics/insights as a differentiator in the sports and media space. An important part of our team’s future will be shaped by this leader and their team so having a demonstrated history of success in “seeing where the puck is going” across a number of key dimensions is essential.
This leader will be a change agent, innovator and influencer who will bring exceptional leadership skills and the ability to drive sustainable change and improvement. This role will be best served by an executive who is excited by the opportunity to build a high performing team, to create internal capabilities, to deliver on challenging transformative mandates, and to optimize existing performance. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Strategy & Planning:
Develop a strategic and long-range planning function for RSM with a strong focus on digital strategy
Provide intellectual leadership and thought partnership as the lead for a portfolio of strategic projects; work with peers to scope and initiate projects aimed at process improvement and material business growth
Provide deep industry understanding and evaluate industry trends to assist in building our long-term strategic roadmap
Partnerships & Corporate Development:
Partner closely with the other members of the Senior Leadership Team and the Rogers Strategy and Corporate Development Team to develop plans for strategic growth and to assess business development and partnership opportunities which align with strategic plan
Identify transformative M&A targets, pursue them aggressively, and liaise with internal and external constituents during formal processes
Develop and oversee our partnership strategy with the major global digital companies, along with international media companies, sports leagues and franchises
Build strong internal partnerships with other Rogers Business Units (Connected Home, Rogers for Business, Wireless) etc) to ensure that we are optimizing our collective assets
Oversee the partnership function within RSM, setting clear deliverables, establishing standardized prioritization, resourcing and pursuit processes, and setting measurable outcomes for success
Develop a presence for RSM in the Canadian tech ecosystem
Develop and oversee our future technology roadmap to ensure we have the right technology, partners and resources to enable our long-term growth and enable technology as a differentiator of our various businesses
Working closely with Rogers IT, evolve our technology business planning process to ensure that we have the proper resourcing, funding and strategy to ensure operational needs are met
Partner with broadcasting and content teams to ensure that we have state-of-the-art technology and production solutions to over-deliver for our partners
Partner with our Advertising & Affiliate revenue teams to ensure we have the right technical integrations enabled with our monetization systems.
Data & Analytics:
Design innovative Data strategies that will enable a high-availability consistent and trusted data set across the company supporting growth and productivity for RSM
Drive Enterprise Data programs across the organization that develop our muscles in Data Governance, Data Quality, and Master Data.
Refine our audience data stack and add/delete where needed
Enable effective and efficient working relationship with business and technology partners, serving as the primary liaison to our Enterprise Data & Analytics, Digital, and Technology teams
Collaborate with RSM business units to profile competitors, establish competitive intelligence priorities, and enhance our reporting and related systems
Gather in-depth data on competitors, leveraging third-party sources, online tools and reports, and primary research;
Support audience measurement related insights and leverage those insights, in partnership with other RSM leaders, to ensure business strategies, content and platform recommendations, and other key decisions are grounded on current audience behaviour and consumer foresight
Oversee Rogers’ representation in various audience measurement organizations (e.g., Numeris, PMB) and ensure that RSM has a strong voice in these forums
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or Advanced degree preferred
15+ years overall work experience with at least 10 years’ experience in senior leadership roles
Executive digital media experience required, especially in areas of advertising and data management; strategy exp. at a leading management consulting firm or investment bank preferred
Proven ability to attract A+ talent and to lead and inspire large teams
Strong business acumen and analytical capabilities – ability to consolidate information into clear, concise analysis in support of business decisions while at the same time being comfortable making decisions with imperfect information; comfort in ambiguity is essential
Proven analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills
Effective at and demonstrated ability to lead change
Strong executive presence with an ability to navigate difficult situations, break down silos, build trusted relationships and influence peers across the organization
Ability to build immediate credibility and legitimacy with their teams specifically and the Senior Leadership Team more broadly
