About Us
The NORAM Group is a vertically integrated group of companies with over 35 years of experience in chemical process development, scale-up, and commercialization.
with the group we are advancing technologies that support the decarbonization of the hydrogen economy and improving other chemical processes that benefit from hydrogen recovery. Our work spans materials innovation and process development and engineering for enhanced chemical and hydrogen production and hydrogen separation/purification bridging the gap between laboratory research and industrial deployment:
- Hydrogen recovery from industrial gases
- Advanced solutions for both land-based and marine applications
- Decarbonization of existing chemical and hydrogen production infrastructure
Our Culture: Fast-Paced, Results-Driven
We operate in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment where strong technical execution and practical problem-solving are essential. Our work focuses on developing technologies that must perform reliably at an industrial scale, requiring both expertise and efficiency.
We are looking for individuals who:
- Take ownership of their work and are comfortable adapting to changes in response to new data and priorities
- Are comfortable working hands-on with high pressure and/or temperature systems
- Maintain a high standard for safety, execution and data analysis
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team across the NORAM Group, including BC Research Inc. (BCRI), contributing to technologies moving from lab-scale validation to pilot and commercial deployment.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Research Engineer/Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team. You will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer. The successful candidate will primarily contribute to new materials and process development through hands on pilot operations/testing and data analysis, as well as the design, modification, and troubleshooting of bench- and pilot-scale systems. Depending on background and project needs, the candidate may also be involved in technology development (process and materials) and process engineering.
We are looking for a multi-talented, enthusiastic, and fast-learning individual to fill this key role and join our technology development team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run bench- and pilot-scale hydrogen separation/storage tests on a daily basis.
- Lead hands-on work in troubleshooting, assembly, and modification of testing setups as needed.
- Perform data analysis and provide insights into results and future work.
- Support the maintenance, specification, procurement and assembly of custom systems.
- Support on and offsite analytical support.
- Provide technical support to the development team.
Project & Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (process, chemists, mechanical, etc.).
- Provide technical documentation as needed, including weekly presentations, formal reports, and safety documentation.
- The successful candidate will be primarily located at our BC Research facility at 12920 Mitchell Road, Richmond (Mitchell Island) and will be required to follow all safety policies and other requirements imposed by facility management there. Working hours at the facility are 8 hours per day Monday to Friday with a 30-minute lunch and flexible start time ranging from 7 to 8 am.
Qualifications
- Must have extensive theoretical knowledge of metallic hydrogen storage materials, particularly AB, AB2 and AB5 types.
- Must have extensive experience preparing and testing metallic hydrogen storage materials.
- Experience with the operation and/or design of high-temperature/pressure systems, especially those involving hydrogen, is a strong asset.
- Relevant process engineering background (e.g., M&E, PFDs, P&IDs, component specification and selection) is an asset.
- Knowledge of thermodynamic (FactSage) and process (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) simulation software is an asset.
- Leadership potential to take on management of the R&D testing team as it grows.
- A master’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, safety awareness, and communication skills.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
