Access Mental Health is a centralized, telephone-based access and intake service providing a single point of contact for individuals seeking support for mental health and/or addiction concerns. Serving children, adolescents, adults, and families, this program offers timely, responsive, and client-centered care across the lifespan. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for telephone-based clinical triage, comprehensive intake and needs assessment, brief and crisis intervention, and appropriate referral and system navigation. This role requires the ability to engage individuals presenting with a wide range of concerns and levels of acuity. As part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, including social workers, nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists, the clinician delivers care in an integrated and coordinated manner. The position demands strong clinical judgment and the ability to work independently in a non-face-to-face environment. Success in this role requires highly developed skills in active listening, motivational interviewing, and real-time documentation while engaging with clients. The clinician must be adaptable, responsive, and comfortable supporting individuals in complex and dynamic situations using a telephone-based platform.
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
A combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered. Must hold current, full registration with a regulated professional body under the Health Professions Act. 1–3 years of related experience supporting individuals with mental health and/or addiction concerns. Direct experience in clinical mental health triage, intake interviewing, needs assessment, brief intervention, crisis intervention, and system navigation. Working knowledge of addiction and mental health disorders across diverse populations. Strong clinical triage, assessment, intervention, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to manage a broad range of clinical presentations and acuity levels. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. Strong documentation skills, including the ability to complete accurate, real-time clinical documentation and navigate computer systems effectively. Ability to work in a sedentary, computer-based role.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant experience in community-based mental health and addiction settings. Experience in a clinical contact Centre or telephone-based service environment. Knowledge of the Calgary-area mental health and addiction system of care and available resources. Familiarity with DSM criteria.
