Position Summary
The Youth Services Supervisor supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of youth programs and services at BGC West Scarborough. Reporting to the Youth Services Coordinator, this position provides day-to-day leadership and supervision to youth program staff, volunteers, and participants while ensuring programs are safe, inclusive, engaging, and responsive to the needs of youth in the community.
The Youth Services Supervisor works directly with youth ages 10–29, supporting their participation, leadership, personal development, and connection to community resources and opportunities. The position plays an active role in program implementation, staff supervision, youth engagement, program administration, and community outreach.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills and will work collaboratively with the Youth Services Coordinator, other BGC West Scarborough staff, volunteers, families, schools, community partners, and youth to support the successful delivery of programs.
All work will be carried out in accordance with the agency's mission, board-approved policies, procedures, and organizational practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of youth programs and services for participants ages 10–29.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, leadership, guidance, and support to youth program staff, volunteers, and placement students.
- Assist with staff scheduling, program coverage, daily operations, and ensuring appropriate staff-to-participant ratios are maintained.
- Lead and support the delivery of youth programs, workshops, recreational activities, leadership opportunities, and special events.
- Build positive and meaningful relationships with youth and create an environment that promotes inclusion, belonging, leadership, and personal development.
- Support youth with identifying and accessing appropriate community, educational, employment, recreational, and social resources.
- Assist with participant intake, registration, orientation, engagement, and follow-up as required.
- Monitor participant engagement and program participation and communicate concerns or emerging needs to the Youth Services Coordinator.
- Support the development and implementation of youth engagement strategies, including opportunities for youth leadership, volunteering, and community involvement.
- Work alongside youth to identify their interests and needs and incorporate youth voice into program planning and development.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to youth volunteers, Leaders in Training, and other youth leadership participants.
- Support the recruitment, orientation, training, and ongoing development of youth program staff and volunteers.
- Assist with the implementation of staff training, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure programs are delivered in a safe, welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment.
- Respond appropriately to participant, staff, and volunteer concerns and ensure incidents are reported and documented in accordance with agency policies and legislative requirements.
- Maintain accurate participant records, attendance, program documentation, statistics, and other administrative records.
- Assist with the preparation of program reports, evaluations, statistics, and other documentation required by the agency and funders.
- Support the Youth Services Coordinator with grant deliverables, funding reports, program proposals, and other funding-related requirements as needed.
- Assist with the development of program promotional materials, social media content, newsletters, flyers, and other communications while ensuring they meet agency standards.
- Support outreach and recruitment initiatives to increase youth participation and awareness of available programs and services.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with schools, community organizations, volunteers, families, and other community partners.
- Participate in and support community events, youth engagement initiatives, agency-wide events, fundraising initiatives, and special events.
- Ensure that all programs and activities are delivered in accordance with BGC West Scarborough and BGC Canada policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Promote and incorporate principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging throughout all youth programs and services.
- Attend staff meetings, committees, training sessions, agency-wide initiatives, and other meetings as required.
- Support the Youth Services Coordinator with program planning, operational needs, and special projects as required.
- Communicate regularly with the Youth Services Coordinator regarding program successes, challenges, staffing concerns, participant needs, and emerging issues.
- Assist with the supervision and coordination of off-site programs, trips, excursions, and youth activities as required.
- Ensure all staff, volunteers, and participants understand and follow appropriate safety procedures and agency expectations.
- Participate in agency-wide initiatives and committees as assigned.
- Attend events such as Volunteer Recognition Night and the Annual General Meeting and support agency-wide fundraising initiatives as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Coordinator or designate.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care, Social Services, Recreation, Education, Social Sciences or related field an asset
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth
- Previous experience supervising staff, volunteers, placement students or youth leaders an asset
- Experience planning and delivering youth programs and activities
- Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to problem solve and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to motivate and support staff and volunteers
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Good administrative and computer skills
- Experience with social media and promotional materials an asset
- Knowledge of community resources and youth services an asset
- Flexibility, creativity and positive energy required
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Additional languages an asset
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Vulnerable Sector Check required
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and off-site activities as needed
- Must be able to perform all responsibilities and duties in a compassionate, respectful and professional manner
Pay: $20.00 per hour
