Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Summer Student to join our small construction team as a Construction Assistant. This paid internship provides valuable hands-on experience in the construction industry, offering an excellent opportunity for students interested in building trades and construction. The role is ideal for individuals eager to learn about construction processes, safety protocols, and teamwork.
Duties:
- Assist with site preparation, including unloading materials and organizing tools
- Support the team in setting up construction sites and safety barriers
- Help with the transportation of materials and equipment around the site
- Observe and learn about construction techniques and safety procedures from experienced staff
- Participate in routine inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards
- Perform general cleanup and maintenance of the work area, shop area, and vehicles and trailers to promote a safe and organized environment
- Perform landscaping and yard maintenance for construction site areas and workshop area including watering trees, picking rocks, cutting grass, and pulling weeds.
- Support various tasks as directed by supervisors to facilitate project progress
Requirements:
- Between 16 and 30 years old (requirement by government grant program)
- Strong willingness to learn and a positive attitude toward teamwork
- Good physical condition with ability to perform manual tasks and stand for extended periods
- Basic understanding of safety practices on construction sites is a plus
- Must be able to quickly and accurately use a tape measurer and simple hand tools
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Valid driver’s license and a vehicle to get to and from our rural Lacombe County location daily
- Work boots are required, all other safety equipment would be supplied as needed
- Must be punctual, reliable, and self-motivated. Must be able to work independently and also in a team. Must have a willingness to learn and must be polite and courteous to others. Our work atmosphere is very laid back and fun!... egos and attitudes need not apply!
Benefits:
- Starting wage: $17/hr, PLUS vacation pay of 6% and holiday pay of 3.6%.
- Pay is every 2 weeks by direct deposit
- We work Monday to Thursday, 10 Hour days. 3 day weekends, no weekend work
