Cavendish Manor Retirement Residence is seeking a dependable, hands-on Full-Time Maintenance Worker to oversee the day-to-day maintenance and physical operations of our retirement residence.
This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors, and staff while supporting compliance with the Retirement Homes Act, RHRA requirements, fire safety regulations, and occupational health and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional service in a senior living environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform general building maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall repairs, and basic HVAC troubleshooting.
- Complete preventative maintenance for building systems, equipment, resident suites, and common areas.
- Conduct and maintain required maintenance logs, fire safety testing, emergency lighting inspections, water temperature monitoring, and other regulatory documentation.
- Support compliance with RHRA requirements, Ontario Fire Code, OHSA, public health requirements, and life safety standards.
- Coordinate external contractors for specialized repairs, landscaping, snow removal, and required inspections.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and facility emergencies.
- Maintain maintenance supplies, inventory, and departmental records.
- Identify repairs and improvements required throughout the residence.
- Support capital improvement and renovation projects as required.
- Participate in occasional after-hours/on-call emergency response.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of building maintenance experience, preferably in retirement living, long-term care, healthcare, hospitality, or commercial facilities.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building systems.
- Familiarity with Ontario Fire Code, OHSA, and retirement residence requirements is considered a strong asset.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative.
- Professional and respectful approach when interacting with seniors, families, staff, and contractors.
- Ability to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check and meet applicable employment requirements.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence is considered an asset.
