We are looking for that exceptional lawyer with approximately 4-8 years of experience in both barrister and solicitor work to join our team in our Toronto Office. We are ideally looking to find someone with solid litigation experience, some corporate law experience, and/or experience in employment law.
Experience in Condominium Law is preferable, but not essential; however, superior written and advocacy skills, a high level of professionalism, good judgement, and the ability to work independently and within a team are.
Lawyer Responsibilities:
- Communicating efficiently and in a timely way with clients and property managers
- Preparing pleadings, notices and make appearances in court
- Working with senior lawyers
- Monitoring legal risk in documentation and opining on legal risk for our clients
- Interpreting laws, caselaw and tribunal rulings
- Conducting legal research and collating evidence
- Undertaking elements of litigation as directed by senior lawyers: such as discoveries, cross examinations
- Ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements for condominiums
- Opining on corporate condominium matters
- Providing legal representation in court, tribunals, arbitrations and mediations
- Understanding documentation for condominiums
- Working with law clerks and assistance
- Participating in industry events including presentations and conferences
Lawyer Requirements:
Education
- Bachelors degree in law (essential)
- Member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing
Experience Required
- Minimum of 4-8 years of litigation experience in Ontario
- Experience in Small Claims Court, tribunals and Superior Court
- Experience in drafting pleadings and opinions
- Conceptualizing, creating and updating legal documents
- Knowledge of Administrative Law and basic knowledge of Real Estate Law
- Evidence based learner / thinking with strong research skills
