ASSISTANT COOK
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Cook is responsible primarily for cleaning and washing dishes and assisting with related food preparation tasks as assigned by the Cook and Executive Director.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director, Western Day Care Centre
Supervision exercised:
The Assistant Cook works under the supervision of the Cook to help prepare and serve of lunch meals and snacks on time. The Assistant Cook reports to the Cook on any matters which will affect the serving or timing of lunches.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To assist in reviewing the menu plans with the Cook.
2. To assist with any tasks assigned by the Cook for preparing lunch or snack
3. To assist with inventory of food, paper and cleaning supplies as required.
4. To ensure proper storage of food, paper and cleaning supplies as required.
5. To assist the Cook in any necessary pre-preparation of foods for the following day.
6. To wash and store all dishes in accordance with the Ministry of Health Regulations
7. To assist with recycling all cardboard, plastic and glass bottles and cans into the appropriate bins.
8. To perform all of the above duties in accordance with the Ministry of Health Regulations: i.e. proper hand washing, hygienic serving of food, apron to be worn, and hair covered while preparing food.
9. To cover for the Cook in their absence.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Should have some experience working in the food industry.
2. Should have good personal cleanliness habits.
3. Should have good time management skills working in a busy environment.
4. Must have a calm and positive manner in any interactions with children that occur during the duties listed above.
5. Must possess a current Safe Food Handling Certificate.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Pay: $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
