About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support a father recovering from hip replacement surgery with post-hospital complications. He's mentally sharp, volunteers regularly, and maintains his independence, but currently needs supervisory support as he regains strength. He lives in a well-prepared home in Westdale, Hamilton, with grab bars and a walk-in shower installed prior to surgery. He enjoys painting and values his autonomy while recognizing he needs temporary assistance during recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Provide supervisory support during morning routines including dressing and showering
- Ensure safe transfers and mobility throughout the home, particularly bathroom access and stair navigation
- Assist with meal preparation and encourage regular eating habits
- Accompany on short walks and light physical activity to support recovery
- Help with grocery shopping and running errands
- Set up art supplies and support engagement in painting activities
- Perform light tidying to maintain a comfortable living environment
- Monitor for fatigue and encourage appropriate rest breaks
- Support attendance at physiotherapy appointments
What We're Looking For:
- Experience with post-hospitalization recovery and mobility assistance
- Ability to balance supervision with respect for client independence
- Strong initiative to anticipate needs while encouraging self-sufficiency
- Excellent communication skills with both client and family
- Calm, patient demeanor with positive energy
- Reliable and consistent attendance
- English speaking
- Male caregiver strongly preferred
- Comfortable supporting bathing/showering with appropriate privacy
- Understanding of hip replacement recovery protocols
Schedule:
This is a short-term recovery position starting Friday, August 22nd. Initial commitment of one month with weekly Friday visits (2-hour minimum shifts). Schedule may expand to include additional weekday morning or evening shifts based on recovery progress and client needs. Flexibility to add visits as required during the recovery period.
