The Financial Controller is responsible for directing and managing the accounting functions, including assisting in establishing and maintaining accounting, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting to top management and externally, in line with Head Office deadlines.
The Controller also maintains the company's accounting systems and implements changes as required.

Lead preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, internal and external reporting and monitoring all key performance metrics, in an accurate manner with insight and analysis for company management, and will proactively investigate/discuss variances from plan and prior period results.

Responsible for timely month end close and preparation of the monthly financial statement reporting package.

Implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures.

Provides advice and guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.

Responsible for small team of finance and payroll professionals, preparing performance reviews and evaluations.

Sets the priorities within the accounting group.

Coordinating the year-end audits and preparation of company audit files and financial. Responding to and coordinating all audit demands and questions from audit staff.

Assist and coordinate the preparation of R&D report for audit and tax purposes.

Coordinates all other customer and government audits, including but not limited to; GST, Revenue Canada R&D audits and responses to queries outside of audits.

Responsible for financial reporting to various companies and agencies (Statistics Canada, etc.)

Assists the VP, Finance with the formulation of accounting policies, procedures and controls for proper GAAP reporting and to adhere to new HO policies.

Other tasks as assigned.
