The Opportunity:
The Advanced Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for the following:
- Ensuring safety of aquatic patrons.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and enjoyable facility.
- Ensuring effective Instruction of programs
This position will have specific facility related responsibilities depending on location the position is assigned (Collicutt Centre, G.H Dawe Centre, Michener Aquatic Centre or Recreation Centre)
Top Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and operation of the aquatic facility by providing lifeguarding services, monitoring patron activities, responding to emergencies, enforcing pool rules, and maintaining facility and equipment standards.
- Deliver high-quality aquatic programs and leadership courses by planning and instructing lessons, evaluating participant progress, ensuring program standards are met, and creating a safe and positive learning environment.
- Support facility operations and team leadership by assisting with program setups, supervising activities on deck when required, and collaborating with staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards through ongoing training, adherence to Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and maintaining certifications and knowledge of policies, procedures, and aquatic industry standards.
- Complete administrative and reporting duties including attendance tracking, incident and accident reporting, event documentation, program evaluations, and record maintenance.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with patrons, participants, parents, and team members while fostering an enjoyable and inclusive recreation experience.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Grade 10 or equivalent – Minimum 18 years due to scheduling
- Possession of the following current certifications – ability to renew qualifications annually or as required by supervisor
- National Lifeguard Certificate - Pool Option
- National Lifeguard Certificate - Water Park Option (Collicutt Centre)
- -*Water Park Option (GH Dawe Centre)
- Intermediate First Aid/CPR Basic Rescuer (level C CPR)
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
- Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) with CPR Instructor/Examiner
- *Aquatic Fitness Instructor
- *National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner
- A minimum of one years Lifeguarding experience.
- A minimum of one years instructing advanced aquatic programs (Lifesaving Courses)
- Ability to exert physical effort demanded by swimming, pulling patrons from the water, and cleaning.
- Ability to handle public relations responsibilities effectively and thoroughly and to be firm and tactful in maintaining aquatic discipline and to respond calmly to emergencies.
- Ability to maintain continuous alertness and attention when lifeguarding and to recognize potential problems.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Demonstrated high level of verbal, written, and listening skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all co-workers, customers (Internal & External), and supervisors.
- Ability to perform all duties in full view of the public, and maintain various guarding positions for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in conditions which may be noisy and mildly unpleasant.
- Ability to work shifts.

Hours of Work:
Hours as schedule with no minimum guarantee. Availability required for early mornings, daytime, evening and weekend shifts to meet the needs of the facility.
