Overview
We are seeking a skilled Solar Technician / Electrician (Field Service) to join our dynamic team. This role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting solar energy systems in various field locations. The ideal candidate will possess strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, along with experience operating heavy equipment and power tools. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative renewable energy projects while ensuring safety and quality standards are met across all operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, install, inspect and troubleshoot solar equipment and facilities at multiple sites across Ontario, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on inverters, combiners, racking/solar panels, trackers, central/string inverters, and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by Supervisor.
- Conduct voltage readings as necessary, replace solar panels and investigate/repair string related issues/faults.
- Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond accordingly to issues requiring immediate corrective action.
- Perform electrical wiring, low voltage connections, and system troubleshooting to optimize performance
- Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively for assembly, wiring, and maintenance tasks
- Manage rigging operations for lifting and positioning large components safely with bucket or crane trucks
- Document work performed and communicate progress with team members and clients
- Adhere to all safety standards while completing assigned tasks. Complete Lock-out/Tag-out and job specific documentation.
- Daily recording all findings/recommendations through an online reporting system.
- Occasionally direct and inspect the work of maintenance helpers when on site together.
Qualifications/ Required Skills
- High School Diploma or a combination of training and experience. Post Secondary education in a related field of study preferred (i.e. Renewable/Sustainable Energy Technology diploma). Candidates with Electrician License 309A (commercial) or 442A (Industrial) will be given preference.
- Experience in a related field; preferably in electrical or mechanical environments.
- Strong understanding of low and high voltage electrical systems and wiring practices
- Aptitude for mechanical and electrical equipment and tools. Experience using hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues efficiently
- Knowledge of general electrical practices related to solar such as crimping, testing DC strings, wire management, MC4 connectors.
- General knowledge of solar inverters and combiners
- Must have current and valid “Training at Heights” certification and “Ladder Safety” training OR be willing to obtain certification immediately upon hire.
- Ability to work at heights and physically able to climb ladders, squat, kneel, bend and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be comfortable driving long distances and sitting for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Computer and digital literacy using mobile apps and software (report writing).
- Ability to travel within Ontario upon request. Occasionally may require overnight stays.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and comply with health & safety standards & documentation.
Pay: From $35.00 per hour
