We have an opportunity for an instructional designer to join our Learning and Development Services team. You'll assess training needs, develop program and curricula, and design and develop instructional material. You'll be part of a team that creates and delivers classroom training, e-learning, self-study, and on-the-job courses, workshops and job aids for employees. In this role, you'll assist with improving our employees' ability to serve the workers and employers of British Columbia by aligning learning objectives, methodologies, and best practices with business goals.

What you'll do

As an instructional designer you will:
Assess training needs by consulting with internal and external stakeholders, subject matter experts, and instructional staff to ensure accuracy and relevance of content to training
Develop training materials using educational theory and best practice related to classroom and online learning and teaching. This includes course outlines and descriptions, student modules and e-learning lessons, instructor guides, learning activities, PowerPoint presentations and other instructional and performance support materials
Design and develop formative and summative evaluation processes, including tests, for new and existing training programs
Develop and conduct internal train-the-trainer programs to assist trainers/instructors in the deliverance of training programs

We're looking for someone who can:
Individually, and as a team member, develop, maintain, and expand working partnerships with various internal clients, staff, and external consultants
Apply principles of instructional design, development, and evaluation processes
Maintain an understanding of current developments and issues in adult education and instructional technology and incorporate new methods, techniques and information education, training, consultation and communication

Your experience and educational background:
A diploma or a university degree
A minimum of three years of development and design experience in a corporate training environment
Experience developing course material in both e-learning and classroom environments is required
Working knowledge of various instructional technologies (including e-learning) and audio-visual equipment
Working knowledge of project management models

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
