As the Underwriter you will be responsible for underwriting risks for member organizations and other strategic clients. You will assess associated risks, review coverage, determine premiums and ensure policies are rated in alignment with risk selection guidelines and standards. You will exercise sound judgement, provide recommendations for underwriting solutions, and respond to questions on policy interpretation, risk selection, rating, and exceptions.
- Conducting analysis to determine risk on new business, renewals and endorsements and referring applications that exceed authority to the appropriate level.
- Preparing quotes, negotiating coverage or rates, and presenting creative solutions within established customer service standards.
- Reviewing risk engineering reports and monitoring for completion.
- Maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with distribution partners and providing guidance to the team regarding underwriting authority.
- Supporting continuous improvement and product development by providing constructive feedback and insights on product offerings, tools, and resources.
- You influence change and are committed to continuous improvement, in order to exceed client expectations.
- You leverage critical thinking skills to identify problems and proactively propose solutions.
- Your strong communication skills allow you to clearly convey messages.
- You’re an effective team player who shares knowledge to support your peers.
- You have three years of insurance experience in commercial underwriting or a related field.
- You have a high school diploma.
- You have strong knowledge of underwriting practices and procedures.
- You have expertise analyzing risk information and working knowledge of insurance products.
- Having the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation(s) is an asset.
- This role involves direct contact with clients and/or service providers in their environment.
