Election Official (EO)
2026 General Local and School Election
Are you energetic, enthusiastic and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment? If so, we are looking for you!
Reporting to the Presiding Election Official (PEO) and/or the Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO), Election Officials (EOs) are responsible to ensure that election procedures and rules are followed in a voting place.
Examples of key EO work activities include, but are not limited to:

Set up and dismantle the voting place, including voting booths, signage, and supplies

Check in and process registered electors
-
Check in electors and record votes on the electronic voters list

Administer registered electors’ declarations
-
Issue ballots and provide clear instructions on how to mark ballots to registered electors

Direct electors to the PEO or APEOs as required
-
Manage lineup of electors inside and outside of the voting location, including parking, if required
-
Conduct perimeter checks to ensure compliance with the 100-metre election campaigning restriction, including removing, covering, or obscuring unauthorized campaign materials as authorized.

Assist with end-of-day closing procedures, including cleanup following the close of voting at 8:00 p.m.

Perform other general duties throughout the voting place as assigned by the PEO/APEO
The Election Official must:
-
Be 18 years of age or older
-
Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia and have a Social Insurance Number
-
Be available to work on election day, Saturday, October 17, 2026
-
Attend mandatory in-person training and review all preparatory materials before Voting Day
-
Be responsible for their own transportation to and from the voting place
-
Be responsible for providing their own meals and beverages, as all staff are required to remain at the voting location until the end of their shift

Not be actively working for any election campaign, elector organization or candidate

Not be related to a candidate running for office in the 2026 General Local and School Election

Be a non-partisan representative of the 2026 Richmond Election/City of Richmond and agree to maintain a non-partisan stance on the election, candidates and related activity while working at the voting location. This includes, but is not limited to digital (i.e. online and social media) presence

Strong communication and customer service skills

Ability to interact with the public in a tactful and courteous manner

Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure

Strong problem-solving skills for practical, on-the-spot issues

Ability to clearly explain procedures, including election processes

Basic knowledge of and aptitude for working with technology

Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset
Working Conditions:

Voting Hours: 8:00am to 8:00pm

Voting Day Hours of Work: Approximately 6:30am to 9:00pm or until dismissed by the PEO
Compensation rates:

Election Day Rate: $320 per day

Training Allowance: $100 total for training
The position of the Election Official will remain open until all positions are filled.
