Taber Special Needs Society has been in existence since 1987. The Society provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. The Society advocates and supports an inclusive environment both for the individuals and the staff that support them. There will be on the job training and job shadowing.
Rotation details: We are currently a permanent Part Time position in the Community Access Program: 2 Days per week 9AM-4PM total of 14 hours per week.
Overview: We are looking for a motivated, upbeat individual who is passionate about supporting others to join our Day Program Team. Our program operates Monday through Friday and supports a variety of individuals to live meaningful, engaged lives within their community.
In this role, you will provide individualized support to a young man on Tuesday mornings and Wednesdays, with additional support provided to other individuals as needed and specifically on Tuesday afternoons. You will assist individuals to build meaningful relationships, access and contribute to their communities through volunteering and community-based activities, and work toward achieving their personal goals. The successful candidate will collaborate with a supportive and energetic team and report directly to a Team Leader.
Responsibilities: As a Support Worker, you will help individuals achieve their personal goals through person-centered plans, encouraging participation in recreational, leisure, and volunteer activities. You will serve as a positive role model in social development, healthy living, and independence, while learning to understand and respond to challenging behaviours through individualized support strategies. Your role will also include administering medications, assisting with personal care and hygiene, creating and implementing daily schedules for each indivodual, completing logs and written reports, and contributing to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment, all while adhering to Taber Special Needs policies and procedures.
Qualifications: - Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Be adaptable to changing environments and able to support individuals with a variety of needs. Be self-motivated with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Be physically capable of participating in leisure activities and assisting with personal care routines. Possess the ability to work effectively in a team and build positive relationships with individuals, team members, and families.
Basic computer skills are an asset- 18 years of age or older · A valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with proof of $2 million liability insurance · A clean criminal record check with the vulnerable persons sector check · High School Diploma or equivalent · Proficient in verbal and written English · Basic understanding and use of computer skills an asset
Experience in the disability sector or health sector is an asset, but not necessary as we provide all training.
