Who We Are
ModBox NWO Inc. is Northern Ontario’s modular builder, designing and delivering wood and steel-frame modular buildings from our base in Thunder Bay. We build and install modular homes, commercial units, and custom structures across Northwestern Ontario, including projects in remote and First Nations communities such as Pikangikum. Our work includes both new construction and renovation projects, and we are looking for people who can deliver solid drywall work.

You will be joining a crew that works on a structured rotation and plays a direct role in completing both renovation and new construction work to a strong standard.
The Role
We are hiring a Drywall Hanger to work on northern projects our Thunder Bay Shop for a 3 Month Contract. This role focuses on Hanging Drywall for many units on new construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Ontario Building Code Compliance: Reviewing construction plans to ensure the proper selection of board types to meet specific provincial code mandates, such as Type X fire-rated drywall for fire separations or moisture-resistant backing boards for wet areas.
- Framing Inspection & Substrate Verification: Inspecting wood or steel stud framing to ensure it is plumb, straight, and properly blocked according to structural requirements before covering.
- Precise Measuring & Opening Cuts: Scribing and cutting panels accurately to fit neatly around electrical boxes, HVAC ducts, plumbing lines, windows, and doors with minimal material waste.
- Panel Positioning & Fastening Integrity: Mechanically lifting, positioning, and fastening heavy gypsum boards to walls and ceilings—utilizing drywall lifts or jacks—while sinking screws to the exact depth without breaking the face paper.
- Seam & Joint Layout Management: Planning layout patterns to properly stagger end joints, keeping gaps under 1/8 inch ($3\text{ mm}$) to ensure structural continuity and create a clean surface for the finishing crew.
- Acoustical & Specialty Installations: Fabricating and installing complex architectural features common in local commercial and residential developments, including bulkheads, acoustic baffles, and curved radius walls.
- Trim & Bead Application: Measuring, cutting, and securely installing metal or plastic corner beads, trim, and expansion joints to protect exterior edges and transitions.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with drywall hanging
- Experience working on renovations, repairs, or new construction projects is an asset
- Ability to produce clean, consistent work with strong attention to detail
- Reliable, hardworking, and able to work well with a crew
- Physically able to handle sanding, lifting, standing, bending, and repetitive work
Compensation
Pay will be based on experience, skill level, and suitability for northern project work
Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
